Hello Falcon Families!

Please find important information from MMES below:

Next Tuesday, May 16th, students in grades K-3 will be taking a trip over to the middle school to tour the campus as we prepare to move our school to that site for the 2023-24 SY. All staff will be on site to help supervise and transition students from station to station. If you do not want your student to attend, please email directly at kwilkinson@fhacademics.org.

Yearbooks are still on sale to purchase. Students/parents can do so by going online or bringing in money to Mrs. Cartagine in the front office. The cost is $30 and they will be passed out the last week of school. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

The Kona Ice truck was here on Thursday to reward our 3rd grade students for all of their hard work on this year's AASA state testing. I am very happy to report that we had 100% participation on 4/5 assessments. Thank you again for ensuring your student arrived on time and ready to test the past three weeks. It is greatly appreciated. Please see the pictures attached from our Kona Ice celebration.

FHMS National Junior Honor Society members came to MMES this week and read books to all of the Kinder and 1st grade classrooms. The students were very excited to meet our older Falcon friends. Thank you to Mrs. Schultz and all of the NJHS members who read to our Falcons. Pictures from Tuesday are attached.

Fountain Hills High School

May Staff - Kim Garman

In addition to being a terrific Registrar, Ms. Garman wears too many hats to mention at FHHS. She knows many roles and is always ready and willing to do whatever the school needs to keep us running smoothly. Whether that be guarding a gate, being the "tardy police," working with students, being at the front desk or attendance, Mrs. Garman has endless energy and has the best interests of FHHS and FHUSD in mind. In short, she is the ultimate team player and she is completely unaware of the phrase, as many of us are "that’s not in my job description." Campuses everywhere need more Kim Garmans'.

May Student - Adam Oberg

Adam Oberg is a student who actively participates in class every day and enriches the education of both his teachers and his classmates. Each day Adam shows up to class eager to learn and to entertain with a smile on his face. Adam regularly asks questions to further his understanding of the content or offers help to his classmates who are struggling. He's a spirited student and a pleasure to have in class!"

Fountain Hills Middle School

May Staff - Steffnie Beck

Steffnie Beck is one of a kind! She is the HEARTBEAT of FHMS! Her school spirit and enthusiasm never dies and is loved by all. She makes FHMS stand out! Steff has excellent customer service skills and as our front-line worker, we like to call her the Hostess with the Mostest! Students, staff, and parents all have a great amount of respect for her and value her commitment to FHMS. She is amazing! Not only does she know every kid by name but she is very close to knowing all the parents as well! She comes to work with a smile on her face and immediately starts her day off running! She's the first one to arrive and sets a positive tone for the day! If you know Mrs. Beck, you know she is a "jack of all trades" and as we like say, a master of them all! She is a pleasure to work with and an AMAZING team player- one who is always willing and able to get the job done! WE LOVE YOU MRS. BECK!!!

May Student - Clyde Cangley

Clyde represents Falcon values to a high degree: he is kind to all, respectful always, responsible and self-directed in his work, and he conducts himself with the safety and well-being of others in mind. Clyde displays a maturity beyond his years in the way he takes responsibility for getting his work done, and for doing his work to the best of his ability. His desire to learn and grow is strong and his efforts in that direction are consistent. Clyde has a kind and ready smile for everyone, and all his classmates know that they are safe around him--he will never be hurtful in word or deed. Great work, Clyde!

McDowell Mountain Elementary School

May Staff - Lisa Cartagine

The conductor of our front office orchestra, Lisa is an invaluable member of our MMES Team. She is often the first one to arrive at school and almost always the last one to leave which is testament to her dedication to MMES for almost 30 years. She has worn many hats during her career, which is why she is your, "go to" person for anything from the printer is jammed, PowerSchool reports, or a band-aid. Lisa is pulled in many directions but is always there to greet our visitors with a smile. Thank you, Lisa, for all you do for MMES and your continued dedication to our staff, students, and families.

May Student - Arianna Novak

Arianna is a model Falcon. She is Respectful, Responsible, Safe and Kind. She always has the courage to do the right thing. Arianna comes to class with a skip in her step and a sweet smile on her face. She arrives ready to tackle the day. She is diligent about getting her work done, and takes pride in her achievements. She has made huge gains with her academics and confidence. I am so proud of her! Go Arianna!!

District Office/Transportation

May Staff - Randy Jensen and Mike McElroy

Randy Jensen

Mike McElroy

The number of tasks associated with building consolidation is, at times, daunting. When I suggested we abandon the use of outside professional help in order to save money and time, I regretted it almost immediately. When I made the suggestion to Dr. J it was based on the idea that we would be able to use transportation, landscaping staff, and possibly volunteers to supplement some of the work load. While I had specific staff in mind for the assignment, there was no guarantee that they would sign on to help. As it turned out our staff was all in!

While tonight we are honoring two of the three individuals who, in addition to their daily responsibilities, have been at it almost daily, I want to recognize others who, from time to time have stepped up when called upon.

  1. Cecilio Dominguez
  2. Gary Grover (helped daily & previous Falcon of the Month recipient)
  3. Robert Gustafson
  4. Becky Kayser
  5. Jerome Kayser
  6. Luis Pena
  7. Daysi Ramirez
  8. Jose Ramos
  9. Ray Smith (previous Falcon of the Month recipient)

The two individuals I have nominated tonight has literally moved more than 11 tons of material, prepped and painted walls, cleaned floors and bathrooms, among other things.

It is my honor to present this month’s Falcon of the Month Award to Randy Jensen and Mike McElroy.
