Little Falcon Preschool

Hello Little Falcon Families!

The Preschoolers just wrapped up their winter unit with creativity and fun! They had a blast creating and reading books all about Polar Bears, Penguins and Arctic Foxes. Students made their own igloos out of marshmallows and pasta penguins. The Preschool students also made penguin crowns.

The Preschoolers celebrated many birthdays these last couple of weeks turning 4 and 5 years old. Ready for Kindergarten!

The Preschoolers have been working on many activities to prepare themselves for Valentine’s Day by decorating hearts with stamps, cutting out hearts, and working on “The Heart Says” book.

The Preschoolers love using shaving cream to practice pre-writing strokes.

Students always have fun building on the light table.

Hello Falcon Families!

Please find important reminders and information for MMES below.

Report Cards

I know many of you received your student’s report card recently and although many had no issues, I fielded multiple concerns with inaccurate information on some report cards. I want to apologize for the confusion and inconvenience this has caused. We switched to standards based reporting this year to provide parents a more accurate view of a student's progress in both academic and behavioral areas. Unfortunately there have been issues with bringing this to fruition in PowerSchool. Thank you for your patience as we continue to fix the issues, as well as work to provide a better experience in March, when the next report cards are distributed.

Camp Invention

The nationally acclaimed Camp Invention® comes to McDowell Mountain Elementary School from June 17, 2024 to June 21, 2024 for one week of creative, hands-on STEM adventures for kids in grades K-6! You can check out this year's programs by watching this video: Illuminate Your Child's Imagination with Camp Invention 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Brooks at sbrooks@fhacademics.org.

Our NJHS and STUGO Members and their club sponsors Mrs. Schultz and Coach Baca had the privilege of delivering the supplies that they raised for the Hope Women’s Center in Phoenix. Well done NJHS and STUGO MEMBERS!

On Jan. 7th our FHMS teachers and staff had professional development training on how to use the Multiball System and the Virtual Realty Stations in our library. As you can see by the pictures everyone had fun! We can’t wait to get our students using these for their learning or for incentives.

Mr. Engels and Mrs. McDonald’s 6th and & 7th grade Science classes have been learning about Newton’s Laws of Motion and their end product was ROCKETS being launched into the atmosphere.

7th grader, Andrek Svinicki, honored James Collins (JC) and Mr. Gary Fenili, our security guard with a Challenge Coin. Both JC and Mr. Gary felt honored and appreciated by Andrek. Way to go Andrek for demonstrating the Falcon Way!

Hello Falcon Families!

One week left in Term 2! Please make sure you get plenty of rest this weekend and early next week in preparation for Final Exams on 2/15 and 2/16. I’d like to congratulate all students and staff and the entire community for a successful Term 2! One more left! We look forward to seeing all students at the neon-themed Hoopcoming Dance in the High School Aux Gym on Saturday 2/10 from 7:30-10:30 pm. As always, please celebrate responsibly and make good choices. Health and safety are always priority one! I've had the opportunity to watch all winter sports this season multiple times. I’d like to congratulate both Boys’ and Girls’ Soccer on successful seasons and to wish Coach Salzman and the wrestlers good luck at Sectionals and State competition and Coach Bonner and Coach Baca good luck as their respective basketball teams enter the playoffs! Please check the marquee and the website in the coming days for game dates and times and try to support our teams either here at home or on the road. I’d also like to shout out to our facilities’ colleagues Rick Harris, James (JC) Collins and Juan Ramos and his crew for keeping everything up and running and dry during this colder rainy season. Fountain Hills weather is tough to predict and they are always ready for anything. Thank you to teachers and staff for always caring about what is best for students. Good luck to all our athletes in the current weeks and all of our students on Final Exams. I hope to see you all around campus or out in the community.

Registration

Today we finished the last of our grade level presentations to help students choose their classes for next year. Everyone has been given a course information card to complete. They will need to bring those back when we meet next week for selecting their specific courses through PowerSchool. Please click to download a copy of the

Course Information Cards. We did find a few minor errors that we have since fixed. Have your student make sure that they see the most updated information. Those students who are planning on taking an Honors Math, Science, English, or Social Studies class must make sure that they bring their Honors Class Agreement packet back signed. To learn more about the courses being offered, please check out our course guide book that is found on our website.

Testing Season Is Upon Us

It’s that time of year! We have several tests that will be administered this winter and spring. Please be on the lookout for a variety of communication in regards to more specific details on schedules and how the assessment will impact your student.

ASVAB

Last week our seniors took the ASVAB. This test highlights their strongest skills. We have an Army Recruiter who will be coming in the next few weeks to help explain their results. The students will receive their test results next week during the Advisory period. If they are at EVIT during Advisory, they will need to see Mrs. Kane for their report.

ACT

The juniors are finishing their ACT Test Prep class on February 16th. As a district we would like to see how the class has helped them and give all students the opportunity to see the test prior to state testing. With that being said, all juniors will take the ACT on Wednesday, February 28th at 7:45. The testing period will run until 11:45. Any student who usually takes the bus will still have transportation available. This will be an asynchronous day for all our students.

NAEP

Fifty of our seniors were selected to participate in the NAEP test to help with the national report card for our nation’s schools. At this time all students participating should have received their letter in the mail. The testing will take place on Friday, March 1st. More details to follow.

State Testing

Our 9th-11th graders will be participating in state testing at the beginning of April. Freshman will take the ACT Aspire, while the juniors will take the ACT. Our sophomores will be taking the District PreAct during this time as well. Below are our schedule dates and specific tests. As we get closer, we will share the bell schedule for these days.
