Dear friends of the Center,

People here in the US will observe Mother's Day this Sunday. For so many, our mothers – whether by birth or adoption - have played a significant role in fostering the faith and values we have today. Whether alive or having passed away, we collectively give thanks to our mothers.

For Catholics and other Christians, this Sunday is also the solemnity of the Ascension, when the Church celebrates Jesus’ ascent to heaven “to be exalted at the right of God”. Some wonder why Jesus didn’t go straight to heaven after rising on Easter. You might say, it was because of a mother’s love for his disciples.

Days after the crucifixion, the first disciples are still fearful, and their belief in witnessing their risen Lord is uncertain. Jesus would not leave them abandoned. So, for “forty days” Jesus appears to his disciples, in various places and times. He comforts them, feeds them, and encourages them. Sounds like a mother’s heart, doesn’t it?

Our ministry here at the Center offers people of all walks of life the opportunity to find comfort, to be fed and find encouragement. Opportunities of upcoming programs are listed in this week’s email. Whether you attend in person or online, you are always welcome here.

The Paulist Fathers and staff at the Center keep you in our prayers.
