Seasonal Street Parking Ordinance

From Dec.1 through March 1 of each year where parking is currently allowed on both sides of the street, on-street parking is modified as follows:

 1. Parking is allowed on the side of the street with even-numbered addresses on even-numbered calendar days between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

 2. Parking is allowed on the side of the street with odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered calendar days between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

 3. Parking is allowed on both sides of the street all days between the hours of 5 p.m. and 7 a.m.

Where parking is currently allowed on one side of the street only, parking is allowed except between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m.

Speak out on mental health privatization

In Illinois, they handed the healthcare of more than 36,000 children in foster care over to for-profit insurance companies.

The result was a repeated failure to deliver basic medical services, leaving foster parents to scramble to find health care, wait months for appointments and pay medical expenses out of their own pockets. (Learn more about what happened in Illinois here.)

Now, lawmakers in Lansing are trying to do the same thing here in Michigan.

There is currently an effort in the Michigan legislature to pass lame-duck legislation to hand the behavioral healthcare of Michigan's most vulnerable residents over to for-profit insurance companies.

We encourage everyone to reach out to their lawmakers, especially your House representative, and let them know not to support a Lame Duck deal on behavioral health integration.

December Team Time

HealthWest traditionally hosts an all-staff event during the month of December to celebrate together.

This year we are doing things a little differently. Rather than gathering as a full agency, which is becoming increasingly difficult due to the number of team members we have, individual teams/departments are planning their own gatherings to celebrate as a team.

We would love to capture some of these team moments. Please use the link below to share photos from your time together.

Share your photos here

If you are not part of an established department/team and do not have current plans for celebrating with a team, please reach out to any supervisor from a team you work closely with and ask to join their team or contact Chelsea Kirksey.

STAFF EVENTS & OPPORTUNITIES

Angel Tree at Club Interactions

Deadline: Saturday, Dec. 17

Support Club Interactions this holiday season by participating in its annual Angel Tree by selecting an angel from the tree and purchasing a $20 gift. Selecting an angel is an opportunity to grant a Christmas wish and bring joy to a difficult season for many of our members. Contact Monique Winters via email to learn more about how to participate and make someone's wishes come true. Gifts are due by December 17.

Toys for Tots

Pick up a toy to make a child's holiday! The FunD Committee has launched its annual Toys for Tots drive and is collecting donations until December 18. Drop off your donations to a box on the East end of MHC, by Gordon Peterman's office. You will receive one entry into a drawing for each unwrapped item you donate. Two names will be drawn for two $25 prizes.

HealthWest Holiday Market

10 am-1 pm, Wednesday, Dec. 14

You don't have to turn further than your HealthWest family to shop local this holiday season. Fifteen staff will be sharing their goods and creations in the Board Rooms at MHC from 10 am-1 pm on Wednesday, Dec. Dec. 14. Stop by to find the perfect one-of-a-kind item for that special person on your shopping list.

If you are interested in participating as a vendor, please contact Michelle Erickson

FunD Raffle

11:30 am-12:30 pm, Friday, Dec. 16

The Winter FunD raffle is quickly approaching. Secure an opportunity to win a prize, just in time for the holidays, before the live virtual raffle party on Friday, Dec. 16, at 11:30 am. All proceeds from this event will benefit the FunD Committee and the money will be used to give back to staff in the form of events, incentives, recognition, etc.

IHC Winter Apparel Drive

IHC staff are collecting new and gently used hats/mittens to trim a tree in the IHC lobby. These items will be available for persons served and guests to take.

Staff Gift Exchange

End the year by giving a gift to a fellow HealthWest team member. In this “Secret Santa” style gift exchange, you will have the chance to give a gift to another HW employee and receive one yourself.

How to Play:

  • Fill out the participation form at https://forms.office.com/r/SQwg5wDejv
  • You will receive an email within two days of submitting the form with the name and information of the individual to whom you will be giving a gift.
  • Read all about them and pick out a gift with a $10-$15 value.
  • Deliver the gift by Thursday, Dec. 22.

Submit the participation form by Friday, Dec. 16, to ensure you receive a match.

Pet Painting

Join us on January 17 at Unruly Brewing for an evening out with fellow HealthWest staff and you will take home a painting of your own pet. There is a $40 participation fee to pay for materials, instructor, and remaining proceeds going to the FunD committee.
