Volunteers: Request for Support of our FUUSN Families
Newton Public School teachers are on strike and that means school is not in session. Parents are managing many logistics as they navigate parenting and working during the teachers’ strike. To support our FUUSN Families, we need folks to help with childcare because resources in the larger Newton community are being exhausted, and we have the space available to offer activities led by you and our older youth. Might you volunteer your time during the week?
Use this link to sign up for time slots each day. Please note that we do not know how long the teachers' strike will last, and things are uncertain. I have set up the SignUp Genius so that we can fill up time slots as a pre-emptive measure. You will notice that I am setting up four slots each day:
7:30 AM to 10:30 AM
10:30 AM to 1:30 PM
1:30 PM to 4:30 PM
4:30 PM to 7:30 PM
With each time slot, you can identify whether or not you would like to provide childcare at FUUSN or if you would like to provide more individualized care for a family in their home. If you choose the latter, your name, number, and availability will be added to a list for parents to call you and work with you directly based on their specific needs.
Each night at 7:30 PM, parents are notified of whether or not school is canceled the next day. There is a parent designated to notify me soon thereafter. We do not know how long this will last so, once I receive that notification you can expect to hear from me by 8:00 PM. In that text, I will let you know if the strike is continuing. If it does continue, you can expect an email and text message notifying you that childcare is needed the next day.
