Recognizing Years of Dedicated Service

The City of Fayetteville celebrated the dedicated years of service of our employees Feb. 21 at the Employee Service Award Ceremony in Council Chambers. Employees were recognized by City Manager Doug Hewett and Human Resource Development Director Jerry Clipp for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 40 years of service. City Council Members Shakeyla Ingram (District 2), Mario Benavente (District 3) and Deno Hondros (District 9) were also in attendance to congratulate recipients. Congratulations!

Weight Management Series


Are you working towards weight loss or weight maintenance? Do you need a little extra support towards those goals? Beginning in March, FayFit will be presenting a 5 class Weight Management Series.


The goal of this series is to give you the tools needed for losing and maintaining a healthy weight. From nutrition to physical activity to goal setting, you will be ready to be the best you.

Fire Department Awards Ceremony

On February 16, the Fayetteville Fire Department celebrated promotions, retirements and achievements. The City would like to congratulate those who received promotions and wish those who retired the best of luck on their new journey! 


We also would like to recognize and congratulate the following who received awards:   


  • Firefighter of the Year: Firefighter Christopher Throckmorton
  • Community Risk Reduction Champion of the Year: Battalion Chief Robert Bowers
  • Gold Life Saving Award: Captain Jeffery McPhail and Firefighter Spencer Rowell
  • Silver Life Saving Award: Lt. Richard Raikes and Captain John Hall (Ft. Bragg FD)
  • Rescue Responder of the Year: Captain Rusty Stewart
  • HazMat Responder of the Year: Captain Zachary Peele


In honor of Battalion Chief John Bowen, his family was presented with the Fire Officer of the Year, a well-deserved and earned award for his dedication, commitment, and passion for serving the City of Fayetteville.

FAST Hosts Hiring Fair for Bus Operators March 8


Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) will host a Hiring Fair for Bus Operators on Wednesday, March 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The fair will be held at the NCWorks Career Center located at 490 N. McPherson Church Rd.

Employee Highlights

Airport Welcomes New Marketing Specialist


The City would like to welcome Tatiana Leflore as Marketing Specialist at the Fayetteville Regional Airport. Mrs. Leflore has a background in marketing within the private sector and holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Fashion Marketing obtained from The Art Institute of Tennessee – Nashville. Welcome aboard Tatiana!

City Celebrates National Engineer's Week


The week of February 19-25 is National Engineer's Week. Here are a few of our 'Can Do' Engineers who are creating a better tomorrow for Fayetteville. Thank you for your service!

4th Annual FAST Employee Appreciation Ceremony

 

In December, the Fayetteville Area System of Transit held its 4th Annual Employee Appreciation Ceremony at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden. The annual event recognizes excellence of not only the drivers, but all staff who keep FAST running. In efforts to provide all staff members the opportunity to qualify for an award, FAST added the Shining Star and Nuts and Bolts Award. FAST Office Assistant Tiffany Campbell was the recipient of the Shining Star Award. Automotive Technician Howard Conklin received the Nuts and Bolts Award.  

 

This year, 25 drivers were recognized with the safe driver award. The recipients of the Distinguished Service award were Melodie Conard, Bobby Brown and Wesley Dean. Paratransit Operator, Bobby Brown, received Award and was also named Employee of the Year. 

 

The event was catered by Fuller's Old Fashioned BBQ and in addition to raffled prizes, operators received FAST apparel and Maintenance workers received heavy duty flashlights. Assistant City Manager Kelly Olivera was in attendance and stood alongside Transit Director Tyffany Neal as employees received their award. 

Officer Saves Life


On December 9, Officer Pharris responded to a well-being check and was able to assess the situation appropriately and assisted a woman who had been lying in her home for 12-18 hours after suffering a stroke. The family praised her for saving the life of their loved one as well as her professionalism in her actions and communication.

Watson Honored in 2022 Airport Business's Top 40 Under 40


Deontae Watson, Deputy Airport Director at the Fayetteville Regional Airport, has been recognized in Airport Business’s Top 40 Under 40 for 2022


Recently, Watson was nominated to serve on the board of directors of the North Carolina Airports Association where he will help support the growth and sustainability of the 72 airports in the statewide aviation system.
