LET US NEVER FORGET
_________________
As we Americans celebrate Memorial Day and an extra-long weekend, I would like to remind us of what this day is all about.
I come from a family of patriots. My father was in World War 1. My two brothers were career Navy and served in Vietnam. My husband was in the Navy and also served in Vietnam. I have a great granddaughter in the military and many great nephews that served. A brother-in-law retired Air Force, and another brother-in-law that was in the Navy.
As a young person growing up, I was taught the meaning of patriotism in elementary school. We said the Pledge of Allegiance every school day. We were taught what the red, white, and blue of our flag meant.
Are you aware of what they mean?
The red represents hardiness, valor, courage, and readiness to sacrifice. It can also represent the blood that was shed by those who have fought for our country’s freedom.
The white represents purity and innocence. The white stars on our flag can symbolize the heavens and the divine goal that humans strive for. The blue represents vigilance, perseverance, and justice. It can also be a reminder to remain strong and watchful. The shade of blue used on our flag is called Old Glory Blue which is made from the indigo plant.
Many of these characteristics of the colors of our flag are also characteristics of a faithful Christian. We strive to live pure lives. We seek justice and persevere through hardships while we still trust God to bring about His will. We also have had many Christians in the past and in the present day that have shed their blood to further the gospel.
Let us never forget the price that has been paid for the freedoms that we all enjoy in this country. Let us pray that we remain vigilant for the Lord in our call to serve him and
bring others to the cross for salvation. Jesus paid the ultimate price for freedom in offering up his life for you and me. Let us never forget!
Let us be reminded of 1 Peter 5:8-9 that says, “8Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 9Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”
Let us be willing to be the kind of Christian soldiers that fight the fight of faith and win the battle so others can be freed from the grips of our enemy, the adversary of our souls, the devil. We will win this war if we do not quit.
