HOW HATRED IS TAUGHT

One might wonder how people come to hate. It is not a born instinct. It is an acquired character trait. Yet, how is it acquired?

I learned firsthand from the Lord about this shortly after the Twin Towers were struck and 9/11

became a reality in our country.

Right after 9/11 hit us unaware so many were shaken to the core. I was visiting a friend on Easter following the September attack. We were discussing many things, but this friend made a statement. He said, “I don’t understand how anyone can hate like they do.”

Immediately the Lord showed me what to tell him. I reminded him that he had taught his children to hate. He was caught off guard when I said this, but asked me, “How? I don’t hate.” I reminded him of a time we had gone out to dinner. I had ordered fish at this restaurant and recommended it. He said to me, “I hate fish. I will never eat fish.” His children were at the table with us when he said this.

I told him that because he hated “fish” that his children would grow up hating fish also, because children learn from their parents. That is how indoctrination of hatred takes place. Some hate a race and pass that hatred down to their children. This is why there is hatred. 

Then, I witnessed to both he and his wife and they received the Lord as Savior. I told them that only the love of God can stop hatred. We must remember that we hate the sin but love the sinner. This is the only way to change lives.

What about you? Have you taught your children or grandchildren hatred? If so, it is time to repent and tell them that you were wrong.
