TWO NATURES
Every person that is born is born with a sin nature. Because of the fall of Adam and Eve in the garden, that sin nature has been passed on to every living soul. Jesus never received that sin nature because he was born of the seed of the Father, not of the seed of Adam.
Just like any seed, it takes watering to make it grow. The sin nature grows unless a new nature is formed. In 1 Peter 1:23 it tells those that have been born again the following: “Being born again, not of corruptible seed (Adam’s seed), but of incorruptible (God’s seed) by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.”
God’s seed is incorruptible, which means it will never decay. We see that in Jesus. Even though he was in the grave, his body never decayed. Yes, he took on the sin of the world, but his sinless blood placed on God’s altar in heaven eradicated that sin forever.
Because a Christian has two natures, the old nature, which is the sin nature, and the new nature, which is born again there is a constant battle. Satan feeds the old nature through temptations, doubt, fear, and a host of other schemes. God feeds the new nature through his word.
Whichever nature we feed will be the stronger. When Jesus said that we must take up our cross he was implying that our old nature is to be crucified so the new nature can be in control through the leading of the Holy Spirit. The more we feed our born-again spirit through the word and through hearing faith-inspired teachings, the stronger our new nature becomes.
You will notice many people have received the Lord, but they fail in their walk. The reason is they are still feeding their old nature with things of the world and not things of the Spirit. God does not treat us like puppets and pull our strings to make us follow him. He wants us to grow through our choices of denying our fleshly desires and being led by the Holy Spirit. Many fail to realize they must make the right choices to have victory. Is it easy? No! But it is the only way to walk in victory. God holds each of us accountable for our right or wrong choices.
We will always have two natures until we depart this body of flesh, so we must choose to crucify (not let it be in control) our old nature and walk in the Spirit. 2 Peter 1:3-4 tells us that it is possible. It says, “3According as his divine power hath (past tense) given unto us ALL THINGS that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”
The only way we will have knowledge of him (Jesus) is to read the word of God. The choice is ours, my friend. Our choices will either bring us victory or defeat.
