SOUTH COAST MENTIONED FOR NATIONAL PLAN YOUR VACATION DAY ON KOIN CHANNEL 6

KOIN Channel 6 out of Portland, Oregon interviewed Allison Keeney at Travel Oregon about their "Plan Your Vacation Day" offers hosted on the Travel Oregon website and asked her for some ideas for travel options. Her first trip idea is on the Southern Oregon Coast! And the south coast is mentioned a few more times throughout the interview. OCF COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM

Hey everyone - the 2022 OCF Community Grants Program application window is 2/14-3/13. They are offering one grant cycle this year - and expect to invest around $6M. The funding priorities have changed significantly between 2020, 2021, and now. Investments are being made with a focus on BIPOC, low-income Oregonians, and under-resourced rural communities. Funding includes general operating support, capacity building, projects/programs, and capital investments. All program info is available in the link below.
IS YOUR COMMUNITY SUFFERING FROM NOT BEING SEEN ON GOOGLE?
FREE RESOURCE TO HELP YOUR VISITORS SHOP, STAY AND PLAY IN YOUR COMMUNITY

Do you want visitors in your community to quickly and easily be able to find the best restaurants, lodging, and fun things to do? What if quickly and easily come with an address, hours of operation, and availability from the business they were seeking? This is what Google My Business (GMB) does for your local businesses. It puts them on the map – literally – and without it, your South Coast town and businesses can suffer these days.

With a phone in every pocket and so many travelers passing through from north to south, we want to be sure that those travelers know that there are dozens of options in each category in each of our south coast communities. How many times have you heard that a visitor had no idea there was “MORE” to your community than what they saw on Highway 101?

Travel Oregon has partnered with the easy-to-use app “Locl” (pronounced Local) to help get all of the businesses in Oregon entered into Google My Business by the end of 2022. Our south coast businesses get FREE access to Locl’s premium features through the end of this year and once their information is more easily entered to GMB via Locl, the businesses will have an easier time going back into GMB to make updates to their hours, availability, COVID restrictions, and more. There’s even a FREE version of Locl that they can use to continue to make updates once the premium plan runs out.

If each community on the south coast created a small team of people interested in spearheading this idea, we could get all of the businesses in each community on the south coast entered into GMB and up and running. We need to reach out to every business on our south coast and make sure that they all not only exist on GMB but are also kept up to date. Reminding our businesses of how vital it is to be listed is the first step. Ask them, “Where’s the first place you search for somewhere to eat when you’re in a new town?” The majority will answer that they pick up the phone and Google it or they open their maps app. Having the business listed in GMB automatically populates both Google search and Google maps. It also helps a business show up first on the Google search above other similarly named businesses across the country and around the world.

So, what are you waiting for? Put together a team of volunteers and start hitting the streets to get those local businesses listed on Google My Business!
