District and school based leaders recently participated in a professional learning opportunity hosted by AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination). AVID is a national college readiness nonprofit that works with teachers to guide low-income, minority students into college-prep pathways.
Attendees were offered two sessions, one on Leadership for College Readiness and one on Culturally Relevant Teaching. The sessions provided a framework to begin forming a strategic plan for building a college and career readiness culture in their schools as well as the use of effective methodologies that validate the cultures of all students in the classroom.
