New! Eighty New Coconut Palms Line Bridge Street

Eighty new coconut palms have been delivered and are being planted along Bridge Street.

“This will be a big improvement,” Mayor John Chappie said on April 25. “Many of the existing trees needed to be replaced.”

At an April 3 Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) meeting, the board approved a city partnership with developer Shawn Kaleta in which he will accept responsibility for the maintenance of the trees and donate $10,000 toward the $50,000 cost of the palms and white river rock. The balance will be paid from CRA funds.

New! Center for Arts Innovation Could Turn into Boca Raton's Cultural Hub

You may already know the famous Centre Pompidou in Paris, The Shard in London, or even The Whitney in New York. The renowned Italian architecture firm behind these storied structures — the Renzo Piano Building Workshop — has been tapped to design the future Center for Arts & Innovation in Boca Raton’s Mizner Park, part of a long-term effort to give Palm Beach County residents a “cultural hub.”

“Innovation is like beauty — you don’t just say someone is beautiful for their exterior, they’re also beautiful because of their mind,” architect Renzo Piano said in a statement. “The same sentiment will apply to The Center. It’s not about being a beautiful building; the beauty is in what will be created and invented inside the building.

New! Park Avenue Streetscape Plan Advances - Lake Wales CRA

The stretch of Park Avenue between First and Market Streets is rapidly nearing completion, offering business owners and shoppers a tantalizing hope that it will soon be opened to vehicular traffic. Work is also advancing on the eastern stretch of the street closest to Scenic Highway.

New sidewalks through the area have offered pedestrians a close-up view of the construction, which has featured rumbling heavy equipment and laborious hand-work efforts to place many thousands of new brick pavers. Work is also underway to expand and recreate the popular MarketPlace as a center for community activities and festivals. That work should be completed in September, according to the City manager James Slaton.

Earley’s Kitchen, Tallahassee Soul-Food Jewel on South Monroe, Reopens After Renovations

City commissioners, community leaders and chamber of commerce members gathered Friday morning to celebrate the reopening of Tallahassee south side landmark Earley’s Kitchen after a one-year closure.

The eatery stood the test of time, conquering the often-uphill battle unique to Black-owned businesses – operating for more than 44 years out of its location at 1458 S. Monroe St.

The southern-style restaurant closed February of last year to complete renovations to both its interior and exterior. The entire restaurant got a facelift with a new logo change (and more) with the help of a grant from the Community Redevelopment Agency.
