A $100,000 grant has been approved for the Richey Suncoast Theatre, courtesy of the New Port Richey Community Redevelopment Agency

Recent renovations have been made at the theatre over the years, but with the new grant, the once prominent, cultural meeting ground will be getting a makeover.

Funding arrives at a promising time as attendance numbers, according to theatre board members, have risen.

New! Clearwater Breaks Ground on 81-Unit Affordable Housing Project

Today, the lot on Cleveland Street sits empty, dust blowing across the 2.3-acre expanse.

By fall 2025, city officials say, it will be transformed into a modern apartment complex for low-income residents.

City officials and developers on Thursday broke ground on Clearwater Gardens, an 81-unit affordable housing project aimed at addressing the rising housing crisis in the area.

Clearwater’s Community Redevelopment Agency is selling the land for Clearwater Gardens to the developer for $1.35 million with 40-year financing at 4.1% interest.

New! Plans for Black-Owned Distillery Venue

Fort Lauderdale’s very own Victor George Spirits is breaking through and breaking ground. Literally.

Billed as Florida’s only Black-owned distillery, the company hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday, June 25, for what will be called The Victory Building, named in honor of the original, historic Victory Theatre once located nearby on Sistrunk Boulevard.

In addition to the distillery, the plan is for the 15,000-square-foot venue at 1017 Sistrunk Blvd. to house a restaurant, cigar bar, whiskey lounge, event space, and a rooftop bar and lounge.

In addition to financing from his own company, Northeast 6th Development, the project will use a $2.45 million forgivable loan provided by the Fort Lauderdale Community Redevelopment Agency.

Pensacola Approves Community Land Trust Agreement for Three New Affordable Homes

A new model to build affordable housing got the green light from the Pensacola City Council on Monday afternoon.

The Pensacola City Council, meeting as the Community Redevelopment Agency board, unanimously approved donating three properties to the Northwest Florida Community Land Trust in a 5-0 vote.

Under the agreement, the Home Builders Association of West Florida will build two new homes and rehabilitate a third that will be sold as affordable homes to individuals making 120% or less than the area median income. The homes can only be resold in the future to individuals at a price that is affordable for that same level of income.

Electric Shuttle Service Will Launch in Downtown Orlando this Fall

Downtown Orlando will see the arrival of a new electric shuttle service this fall, as part of an effort by city officials to increase visitation and expand transportation options in the downtown core.

The new program, dubbed Ride DTO, will be an on-demand shuttle service that will essentially function as a publicly subsidized Uber service. An agreement approved by city leaders Monday with Circuit Transit, an eco-friendly micro transit company, will cover the cost of operating five mini-shuttles downtown, including one that is ADA-complaint.

The electric shuttles will offer exclusive rides suitable for small parties, available for pick-up and drop-off within the downtown Community Redevelopment Area (CRA) through a mobile application. By “exclusive,” they mean you can expect rides to service your party only, not a pool situation with other individuals or parties that request a ride while you’re en route to your destination.
