I hope all of you will have a meaningful and enjoyable Memorial Day Weekend. For those of us in town, we will look forward to worshipping in person together. I will be teaching on the Spirit of kindness. The spiritual fruit of kindness is a call outward into our world to be people of kindness. The spiritual fruit of kindness is mercy and love in action.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? Dear children, let us not love with words or speech but with actions and in truth” (I John 3:16-18). This is the “fruit of kindness”. On Sunday to think on the spiritual fruit of kindness, we will turn to a very familiar story.

Each week I am writing an article on the “fruit of the Spirit” which I taught on the previous week. Sometimes, the article is a review but often, I add material that I did not use in the respective sermons. Below is the article on patience.

Spirit of Patience

Patience, what is it? When understanding a word used both in our cultural and spiritual lexicon, it is important to have biblical definitions and descriptions for biblical words. Biblically, patience is the fruit of God’s Spirit (Gal. 5:22); a garment of God’s wardrobe (Col. 3:12); an aspect our spiritual calling (Eph. 4:1-2); and thankfully an attribute of God (Psalm 103:8). In James 5:7-11, two illustrations and two words are employed to teach God’s word on patience.

PROJECT 24

Work began Tuesday, May 21 to install new heating and air conditioning units for the third floor of the Education building! After the third floor is finished, workers will install new heating and air for the Fellowship Hall.

This summer, improvements will be made to the restroom outside the Fellowship Hall including new floor covering, fixtures, and painting.

Thank you to all who have contributed to this project. To date, we have raised approximately $99,855 of the $100,000 to $110,000 that is needed to complete these top two priorities! Other potential improvements will be prioritized, scheduled, and worked after these two items.

If you wish to contribute financially, place a check with “Project 24” on the memo line in the offering plate, or give through the church website. Gifts of any size are greatly appreciated.
