VBS! Connectional church! The gift of community! Service!

I had the great pleasure on Wednesday evening to accompany the VBS Mission Mania group on an adventure.

We made our way to Springwood Presbyterian where we joined their pastors and members in some learning and serving.  We talked about natural disasters and PDA—Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. And then we packed PDA clean-up buckets together. We had a super fun car ride—answering fun questions about favorite restaurants and state capitals. Car rides are some of my favorite times in ministry—youth, younger, older—you never know what topic will arise.

At church before we left—a yummy dinner catching up with all the VBS participants, parents/grandparents, Game Night participants. Bible stories (Nora and Willy Fisher are amazing!), dancing and singing. Charlotte Nance-Allbright has planned a Spirit-filled week.

I stood aside for a minute in Shive Hall and smiled as I watched parents/guardians picking kids up, little people running around with ice cream, God's wonderful people of all ages just having a few moments together. And I said a word of thanks for the gift of faith-filled community, of connectional church and the ways we love and care for each other.

News and Events

The Session has called a Congregational Meeting to immediately follow worship on Sunday, June 30th, for the purpose of hearing and acting upon a slate of nominees to serve on the Nominating Committee.

With vacation season coming soon, we want to thank you in advance for keeping your church contributions consistent to ensure proper support for our summer programming and operations.

2024 has started off to be an exciting year at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington! And 2024 continues to gain excitement as we move into the summer months with the upcoming arrival of Rev. Dr. Jim Lunde as our new Senior Pastor.

So much growth and so many opportunities to share our talents, our lives, and our resources with each other and others in our community and world. Your generosity makes First Presbyterian a dynamic and exciting place to be.

A Thank You Note

Members of First Presbyterian recently gifted retiring Andrews Elementary principal Sabre Robinson with a gift card and a thank you note for embracing our church partnership. Below is her response:

Wow, so many thanks Jin Jin to everyone. I have loved our partnership and found the members and the team's outreach to be a beacon of positivity and hope for our children. I am so blessed our paths crossed and hope to keep in touch.

I am. humbled and very much appreciate the kind words and gift. Retirement seems odd right now, but I have a sneaky feeling I'll love it!!

With kind regards,

FPC Walk & Talk Continues each Tuesday Morning

Summer is here, and we are going to keep our Tuesday morning walks happening!

We will meet on the steps outside the chapel. We will NOT walk if it is raining.

Folks will be in and out of town a bit more during the summer, and the group will gather and walk whether there are big or small numbers.

This is wonderful low-key fellowship time!

Come join us—it’s a great way to get exercise and have some fellowship at the same time.

The Tuttles are heading away for a little family respite. Here are a few notes on pastoral care:

Friday, June 21-Sunday, June 23 (morning)--Rev. John Johnson will be on-call for pastoral care.

Sunday, June 23-Friday, June 28--Rev. Scott Lawson will be on-call for pastoral care through the week. Rev. Carrie Tuttle will be back in town on Friday afternoon, so she will be on-call after that time.
