Sermon:

  • "When the Trouble Started", Rev. Dr. Ed McLeod, preaching

Scripture Readings:

  • 1 Samuel 8:4-22
  • John 19:13-16

Hymns:

  • Praise Ye the Lord, the Almighty
  • Rejoice, the Lord is King!
  • Come, Christians, Join to Sing

I have long-appreciated the hymn, "The Summons." As I think about who we are as a congregation and all that we have been called to do, I hear the words:

Will you come and follow me if I but call your name?

Will you go where you don't know and never be the same?

Will you let my love be shown? Will you let my name be known,

will you let my life be grown in you and you in me?

On Sunday we will invite children, youth and adults who are participating in our summer trips and experiences to come forward for a commissioning. A list of those experiences: VBS Volunteers & Mission Mania Team, Massanetta Middle School Conference, Montreat Youth Conference, Youth Mission Trip , and Passport Kids Camp.

We are called in so many ways, and sometimes it is as simple as, "sure I will go" or "fine, I will give that a try..."

The Spirit will move in the lives of these participants in ways that we can't even imagine. God's love will be shown in ways that we can't completely imagine.

Join me in praying for all those answering calls in the coming months.

News and Events

With vacation season coming soon, we want to thank you in advance for keeping your church contributions consistent to ensure proper support for our summer programming and operations.

2024 has started off to be an exciting year at First Presbyterian Church of Burlington! And 2024 continues to gain excitement as we move into the summer months with the upcoming arrival of Rev. Dr. Jim Lunde as our new Senior Pastor.

So much growth and so many opportunities to share our talents, our lives, and our resources with each other and others in our community and world. Your generosity makes First Presbyterian a dynamic and exciting place to be.

The Salty Saints outing to the Sock Puppets game this Sunday, the 9th has been canceled. Please stay tuned for more information about Salty Saints gatherings in the fall and beyond!

Thanks to those who have shown interest, and thanks to the Salty Saints who are working to get this new ministry off the ground!

Furniture Ministry

Our annual "Don't Trash It," campaign and our June furniture donations from Elon University are almost complete. Because of your help and for these donations, the Furniture Ministry will be able to provide gently used furniture and linens to over 200 families in Alamance County during the next several months while getting so many children off the floor. Last year we provided over 300 beds to children. Special thanks go to Raye Sapp and Reid Dusenberry for coordinating these efforts and to Bill South for the 18-wheeler which was used to transport two truck loads of furniture from the Elon dorms to the Graham Warehouse.

We are still in need of mattress pads, pillows, sofas, coffee/end tables, lamps, and kitchen items. We are always in need of volunteers. If you have recently retired or have available time during the week or on the weekend, please contact the Furniture Ministry at 336-212-2937. The Furniture Ministry office is open each Monday from 1:00 - 4:00.

Our next churchwide workday is Saturday, June 22, from 9:00 - 12:00. Come out and be a part of this wonderful FPC ministry.

See how God is leading our Matthew 25 church.

FPC Walk & Talk Continues each Tuesday Morning

Summer is here, and we are going to keep our Tuesday morning walks happening!

We will meet on the steps outside the chapel. We will NOT walk if it is raining.

Folks will be in and out of town a bit more during the summer, and the group will gather and walk whether there are big or small numbers.

This is wonderful low-key fellowship time!

Come join us—it’s a great way to get exercise and have some fellowship at the same time.
