Sermon:

  • "Who Tells Your Story?" April Martin, preaching

Scripture Readings:

  • Amos 7:10-15

Hymns:

  • Morning Has Broken
  • I Love to Tell the Story
  • Christ Is Coming!

I have been thinking so much about the ways that the church can help nurture our faith—for all ages.

In the coming weeks, we will baptize precious children of God.  We will welcome new members. We will worship on Pentecost Sunday (May 19) with our youth leading worship—the Spirit will move indeed!

We will be celebrating our high school senior youth with a special brunch.

We will commission MANY members and friends for participation in all sorts of summer faith experiences.

It is an honor and call to be part of the Christian nurture of God's children.

This Sunday, April 21 we welcome April Martin as our guest preacher. April is pursuing her Master of Divinity degree and is on staff at Shandon Presbyterian in Columbia, SC as Pastoral Associate for Youth and Young Adults. She is a professional opera singer. She is an amazing human. April grew up at First Presbyterian and it is a gift to have her return to preach.

How were you nurtured in your faith as you grew up? Who were important people or what were special experiences in your faith story?

We'll see you on Sunday morning to continue nurturing one another in faith.

Peace,

Carrie

News and Events

The Furniture Ministry had a fun and fabulous workday last Saturday. Forty loyal and energetic First Presbyterian servants turned out on a beautiful Saturday morning and delivered furniture to nine individuals and families and picked up much-needed donations from four other homes. In the warehouse, a small mountain of linens was sorted, bundled and shelved. Many, many thanks to all who participated and all who support this ministry in donations and prayers. Already this year, our congregation has helped 60 individuals and families in need. It is amazing what God is doing through us here at FPC!

Opportunities to serve in June include the annual Don’t Trash It! linen collection campaign from Elon University beginning May 15 and helping with the pick up of beds and dressers that Elon is donating in late May and early June. Watch for more information about both. In addition, a “mini-workday” is happening every Monday afternoon from 1-4 pm in the warehouse and all are welcome to come and help. Call 336-212-2937 if your wish more information.

Small Groups are back! After the very successful initial small group gatherings earlier in the year, we are so excited that they are back! Follow the links below to the Small Group website for descriptions of offerings, and/or to register. Please note that some of the small groups do have limits on the number of participants.

Faith Formation

Join the class at 9:00 a.m. in the John Knox Room as they explore the spiritual novel, Burning Faith, with its author, Chip Bristol. It is a tale about a church that burns on Christmas morning and how the people find their faith without a building. An allegory, Burning Faith speaks to the nature of the spiritual journey as well as what it means to be the church. Books are available for purchase ($20) in the church office.

Join the class at 9:00 a.m. in Room 228 for a study based on the book Thoughtful Christianity by Ben Daniel.

Spring is in the air, folks and it is time to get back in the swing of our Tuesday morning walks together!
