Review the FORTE Workshop Slides from #NRG2024

The FORTE Workshop was held on Friday, July 26, where Dr. Kachnic, Associate NCORP Chair, championed the importance of this colorectal cancer prevention clinical trial. Topics discussed include an overview of the trial’s progress and strategies to continue expanding patient recruitment (Dr. Robert Schoen, Protocol Chair), FORTE initiatives to increase enrollment (Dr. Jeffrey Dueker, Protocol Co-Chair), FORTE at the University of Colorado and the Rocky Mountain VA from both PI and research team perspectives, and FORTE video and communication efforts (Cheryl Leow, FORTE Education and Communication Specialist). Review the FORTE Workshop slides to review these topics and more.

FORTE enrolled its 1700th participant on July 3, 2024, less than a month after enrolling the 1600th participant!

FORTE Introductory Phone Call Resources

The FORTE team has created materials to support clinical research staff reaching out to patients encouraging them to enroll in NRG-CC005. The CIRB-approved Introductory Phone Script provides plain language to use when discussing FORTE with patients on the phone.

“FORTE, (spell) F-O-R-T-E, stands for Five- OR Ten-year colonoscopy for 1-2 non-advanced adenomatous polyps. This study is looking to answer the question whether people who have 1 or 2 small benign polyps removed during a colonoscopy should have their next colonoscopy exam at 10 years or should they have their repeat colonoscopy exams at both 5 and at 10 years? The study is needed because the best timing for a repeat colonoscopy is not known.

The usual approach for patients who are not in a study and who have had 1-2 benign polyps removed is to have a repeat colonoscopy in 5 to 10 years.

How often to return for colonoscopy for 1-2 non-advanced polyps is an important public health problem. We need to better understand this because it affects so many people – around 30% of people have these kinds of polyps.”
