WELCOME
to our monthly newsletter
As we head into the Thanksgiving holiday, this year, of all years, I find myself feeling even more thankful. Yes, there are things that I wish were different for all of us, but my family and I are healthy so far and we’ve managed to adapt to our new norm.
This fall, I wasn’t quite sure what direction we would take given that racing was off. Everywhere there were big question marks. How do we keep moving forward slowly, safely, thoughtfully, and do so with meaningful intent? How do we build and maintain community in a year when we all need it most?
Behind the scenes, I could see Mike Wieneke and the entire team of coaches working tirelessly to reconsider, rethink and reinvent every single aspect of creating a training platform that prioritized the safety of our athletes, coaches and community. To put it mildly, they are an incredible force that exudes nothing but pure awesomeness!
The FOGC Board likewise outdid themselves to consider safety first, pivot quickly, build community and continue to give when everyone was just trying to get through each day.
To the Greenwich Crew community, your generosity is truly exceptional and your commitment to our athletes, coaches and the program as a whole, went above and beyond in this challenging year.
Not only did you help us to achieve 100% of our financial Giving Tree goals, but you also continued to show your support in a variety of ways.
On behalf of the entire FOGC Board, THANK YOU again to our parents and to each and every coach for your talent, time and your remarkable generosity!
We are deeply grateful, and honestly rather humbled, to be surrounded by, people who consistently demonstrate an extraordinary care for others. It’s inspiring, motivating and most importantly, it gives us hope. We know there are countless examples of these everyday heroes, but our conversationwith Arshay Cooper earlier this month was a powerful moment that has brought this year into focus.
Thank you again for helping us to share his message with our community. Going forward, the FOGC Board will be working with the coaches to explore ways in which we can help to address additional barriers to access, continue to develop relationships with community partners, and increase our scholarship fund so that we can create sustainable opportunities in the sport of rowing for any athlete. We could not do this without you!!
