FMS HSA Weekly Bulletin
September 28, 2014

CO-PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

What a wonderful first week of fall!  Our sports teams are doing well and Clubs registration is now open.  After School Clubs begin next week.  It is a wonderful time at FMS!

We want to wish everyone a Happy New Year who celebrated this past Thursday!  Hoping the holiday was spent with family and friends and all enjoyed the day!

FMS has a lot going on - fall is a busy time.  Please make sure you read our HSA Meeting Minutes, as well as the Daily Bulletin and eblast.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK:

If I would like to volunteer for the Snack Bar, who do I contact and how much time does it take?  Also, if my student would like to purchase items from the Snack Bar, where do they go and how much are the items?

The HSA provides a Snack Cart for students staying after school for Clubs, Sports and/or receiving extra help after school.  Items cost anywhere from $.25 up to $1.00.  It is located in the back hallway of the gym and students may go to the cart right after school.

If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Diane Kay at d.barillakay@verizon.net - 2 parents are needed each day and should arrive by 2:00 pm  The cart is closed by 2:30 pm and the volunteers are able to leave by 2:40 pm the latest.  This is very helpful if you have younger children at the lower schools and need to get back in time for pickup or the bus.

We are looking forward to our last Back to School Night on Tuesday, September 30th.  We will continue to have a clothing sale table in the lobby for all interested in purchasing spirit wear!  We look forward to seeing our 7th grade families Tuesday Night.

Have a wonderful week!

Clubs will be run by FMS staff members and will cost $30 (plus materials cost if applicable). The registration fee supports programs provided by the FMS HSA for the benefit of all Frelinghuysen students.

Registration is available ONLY online through Signup Genius Link below.  Payment can be made either through Paypal or by a check. If paying by check, please send in an envelope marked "HSA Clubs" and note your child's name, grade and club selection.  Clubs will run if we reach the minimum number of participants.  Please remember that spaces are filled on a first come first serve basis, and many clubs fill up quickly!  Registration AND payment for clubs must be received by October 2 so act now!

Please remember that although clubs are not a school sponsored event, appropriate behavior is expected and the FMS Code of Conduct will be enforced.  A nurse may not be present in the building.

Coinciding with the 8th grade Ancient Greek Social Studies curriculum, he will work with students to create their own "Greek Myth" character. Students will use visual comic storytelling tools such as word balloons, emanata (emotion lines), and facial expressions to tell a story that focuses on the structure of a scene as well as the character design, where they will identify how physical and expressive traits help communicate personality.

Magazine Fundraiser...

Dear Parents,

We are writing to inform you of the FMS HSA's largest fundraiser for the school and to request your support during the sale.  The school receives 43% of all the sales.  This will even apply to your magazine renewals.  You may order magazines online or through the Sales Sheet, that will be sent home on September 19, 2014.

As an incentive and a token of our appreciation for the children's support and efforts, we will be offering numerous prizes.  The more magazines the children sell, the more prizes they will earn.  One of our Grand Prizes is a Limo Ride to an eating establishment.

Magazines may be ordered all year by visiting:

www.APMags.com

SCHOOL CODE:  HELPFMS

If you order magazines and enter the above code for the school, we will receive credit for the school and your child will earn credit towards prizes.

Thank you for your anticipated support.

Sincerely,

Box Tops for Education...

Welcome back to another school year! FMS will once again participate in Box Tops for Education, a program most of you are already familiar with from the elementary schools.

Box Tops is such an easy way to earn money for our school; last year FMS earned over $1,600, and our goal this year is to surpass that!

Here's how you can help:

1) CLIP BOX TOPS from hundreds of participating products and send them to school;

2) Go to  http://www.boxtops4education.com/to find out how to earn bonus Box Tops, receive coupons, and find a list of participating products.

How do I send in Box Tops to school?

At FMS there is ONE main collection period during the year, which takes place in February. At this time, the students will be asked to send in all the Box Tops they've collected throughout the year and give them to their homeroom teachers. The Box Tops will be counted, and the top homeroom from each House will win breakfast treats to be enjoyed one morning during homeroom.

Do I have to wait until February to send in Box Tops?

No, Box Tops can be sent in at any time. Simply have your student bring them to school in a baggie or envelope, and place them in the Box Tops mailbox located just outside the door of the Main Office. Note that Box Tops sent in this way will not count toward the February contest, but will count for the overall total for our school.

Just remember to keep on clipping Box Tops all year! It you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Joan Galbraith, jgalbrai@drew.edu

Thank you for supporting Box Tops at FMS!

Blindness Awareness Day at MHS...

As part of his Eagle Scout project, Morristown High School sophomore Andrew Chin (and former FMS student) is having a Blindness Awareness Day at MHS on Sat, Oct 4th from 1:30-3:30 pm.  He was able to raise money and order 153 braille room signs for the high school.  He has invited about a dozen organizations to attend this special day and it would be great if he could get a good turnout for this event.  There will be free eye exams that day and everyone will be able to see the new signs around the school.  Thank you for your help!
