Dear FBLA Advisers

We're a month into the launch of FBLA Connect, our National FBLA membership and chapter management system. I am happy to report that as of today, September 15, Pennsylvania FBLA has 506 paid/pending high school members and 11 paid/pending middle school members in FBLA Connect from the chapters listed below.

Here are some observations/issues from this first month:

Observation #1

There are still multiple advisers that have not activated their FBLA Connect account. Multiple invitations have been sent. I will be reaching out to advisers next week requesting them to activate their accounts ASAP. National FBLA was to send out another invitation to advisers and co-advisers without activated accounts today.

Observation #2

Advisers are entering students in the membership system, but they are not listed as members UNTIL the adviser transitions them from unpaid to paid or pending members. When you do that, an invoice will be generated, and advisers need to choose one of three payment options (see the image at the end of the email):

1. pay by credit card (automatically/immediately marks them paid)
2. payment by mail (sending a check/students are pending for 60 days)
3. purchase order upload (sending a check/students are pending for 60 days)

If a student is fully paid or pending, they are able to be seen in Blue Panda and registered/lodged for the State Leadership Workshop. If none of the three items above is completed, the students cannot be seen in Blue Panda. From the time you choose one of those options on an invoice, it takes about 15 minutes for a member to appear in Blue Panda.

Observation #3

Once students are marked paid or pending, the student will receive an invitation email (at the email advisers listed for the student) to activate their own account. Please encourage them to activate their account and update their personal profile.

Observation #4

Some advisers were able to enter students without grade levels, genders, and email addresses. I have reported this to National FBLA as these are required fields, and they need to fix this issue. When you are entering students manually, please make sure you complete the following five pieces of information required for each student:

1. First Name
2. Last Name
3. Gender
4. Grade Level
5. Email Address (personal email preferred) (invitations will be sent to this email address for the student to setup his/her own account/must be capable of receiving email from outside the school system if you supply a school email address)

Observation #5

When sending a check, make sure you include a copy of the invoice; otherwise, membership processing is going to be delayed. Since checks are many times sent from the school's business office, you need to make arrangements with them to include the invoice. Remember, there is an option within FBLA Connect to "share" an invoice and have it sent to accounts payable or whomever would be responsible for writing the check. Not sure how to do that? Observation #6

Please make sure you enter your chapter officers into the system and assign permissions. They can help you manage your chapter. You have the ability to grant permissions at very high levels for them to help you, and you can do that by specific position (president, for example). If you need help doing that, please reach out to Bruce Boncal. More on this next week.
