Lexington Creek Elementary celebrates 30th anniversary with walk down memory lane
The morning was filled with hugs and fond memories as Lexington Creek Elementary welcomed back former leaders, teachers and students to celebrate the school’s 30th anniversary this past weekend.
Hundreds gathered to commemorate the special occasion, surrounded by symbols of the school’s history and those who helped build it. Principal Christina Hopkins opened the program noting the school’s legacy and recognizing those in attendance.

Fort Bend ISD theater ensembles shine with Tommy Tune nominations and in One Act Play competition
Fort Bend ISD theater programs from Dulles, Hightower, Ridge Point and Travis high schools received a record 16 nominations in the 2024 Tommy Tune Awards Program.
The Tommy Tune Awards Program
recognizes high school musical theater in the greater Houston area each school year. Each performance is adjudicated by a team of volunteer, professional Houston-based music and theater artists from October to March. Top scoring productions receive nominations.

Three Fort Bend ISD One Act Play ensembles – Kempner, Marshall and Willowridge high schools – will compete in the district round of 5A competition, after advancing from zone competition this month.
Three Fort Bend ISD One Act Play ensembles – Bush, Hightower and Ridge Point high schools – will also compete in the bi-district round of competition, after advancing from district competition.

Sugar Land Middle School students bring joy and kindness to Houston preschoolers who have faced homelessness
Students from two Sugar Land Middle School clubs - Accepting Responsible
Male Strengths and We Imagine New possibilities, We are Girls Soaring, donated art supplies and participated in an Easter egg hunt during a recent visit to a Houston area preschool program for children who have experienced homelessness.
“This is the second year in a row that the clubs have worked together to help this wonderful program,” FBISD social worker Roderick Martin said. “Our students really enjoy it, and they are learning about service.”

Dulles High School junior Robell Ephrem chosen for national student mental health advisory group
Last month, Dulles High School junior Robell Ephrem was named to Creative Visions’ Mental Health Youth Advisory Committee, being selected as one of only 17 student ambassadors from across the country.
As part of his selection, Ephrem received a $250 micro grant to design and create a community resource to help combat the stigma surrounding youth mental health and to promote well-being for students. He plans to use the funding to create a video campaign targeting students in the Dulles community.

Fort Bend ISD communications team receives top honors from statewide public relations association
Members of Fort Bend ISD’s communications team won 19 awards, including two “Best of Category,” at the 2024 Texas School Public Relations Association Star Awards Program for projects completed during the 2022-23 school year.

The team received 10 gold star and nine silver star awards.

NEW DEADLINE: March is National Nutrition Month - FBISD hosting student art contest
Students are invited to participate in the Student Art Contest, which opens today, on the theme “Beyond the Table.” The deadline to submit work is Friday, April 5. Students from all grade levels are encouraged to submit their original artwork, and winners will be announced at each level (elementary, middle and high school).
Criteria:
- Media can be paint, drawing, watercolor, collages, sketches and digital illustration
- Work must be created entirely by students
- 3D submissions will not be accepted
- Artwork that includes or depicts copyrighted images (i.e. characters from television shows, movies, video games or books) will not be accepted

Fort Bend ISD to host third annual Bookapalooza on April 13
FBISD will hold its third annual Bookapalooza on Saturday, April 13 at Dulles Middle School (500 Dulles Ave., Sugar Land 77478). The event will begin at 9 a.m.
The free event celebrates literacy and is open to all FBISD K-12 students, though a ticket is required for entrance.

Fort Bend ISD Small Business Enterprise Program to host next event on April 25
Fort Bend ISD’s Small Business Enterprise Program will host its next event, “Doing Business with FBISD,” on Thursday, April 25. The event will be held at the James Reese Career and Technical Center (12300 University Blvd., Sugar Land 77479) and will begin at 2 p.m.

The meeting will focus on doing business with the district and all vendors interested in doing business are encouraged to attend. Mark Winchester, U.S. Small Business Administration's Deputy District Director, will be the featured guest.

Kempner High School offers memorial scholarship in honor of dedicated educator
Kempner High School will award one of its 2024 graduating seniors with the 2nd annual Ianne Perez Quila Scholarship during an award ceremony, May 16.
The scholarship was established a year ago in honor of the Kempner alumna and Fort Bend ISD educator who passed away from cancer.
“Ianne was an outstanding educator in FBISD and set the standard for what it means to be a Kempner Cougar,” Principal Dr. Danielle Jackson said. “This is a personal project for me because she was also my friend.”
Recipients of the scholarship must have at least a 3.5 GPA, be involved in the fine arts program, be a “Kind Cougar” and represent the district’s Profile of a Graduate, all the things Quila exemplified while a student at Kempner High School.
