Dear friends and family,

FAVOR Upstate exists so that “everyone in the Upstate of SC has a fighting chance at recovery.” We do this by focusing our efforts in 3 main impact areas:

Rebuilding Lives

FAVOR provides individual coaching and support services to everyone, free of charge. Contact us today to learn more about our services or ask questions through our confidential helpline: 864-430-1802

Healing Families

For every person who struggles with substance use disorder, statistics show at least 4 family members struggle alongside them. FAVOR offers free Family Support coaches and wraparound services for anyone who wants to understand more about the disease and how they can respond.

Strengthening Communities

FAVOR believes we can achieve more by working together than working separately, and one example of this is seen through our partnerships with other community-based service organizations like The Phoenix Center, Triune Mercy, Soteria, Greenville Homeless Alliance and so many more.

As we learn that individual recovery is possible and families do indeed heal, our communities are strengthened, one person, one family at a time.

To learn more about our services or how you can help others, contact us today at 864-430-1802 or visit our website at www.favorupstate.org.

With love and support,

Lesley

Strengthening Communities Workshop

Join us for a FREE Strengthening Communities Workshop series educating our friends, families, and neighbors about substance use disorder. The hybrid sessions are held the 3rd Wednesday of every month 6 - 7 pm, both virtually and in-person at one of our FAVOR Upstate centers.

Compassionate Prenatal Care Influences

Sustainable Recovery

This session will explore the services available at the Magdalene Clinic for women who are using substances during their pregnancy or have used substances in the past. The Magdalene Clinic providers offer prenatal care, mental health counseling, and peer support for women at any stage of their recovery or substance use journey, all under one roof.

Melicia Tanner is a Licensed Professional Counselor and works as the Behavioral Health Curriculum Director for the Seneca Family Medicine Residency Program. She has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Clemson University, a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from Lipscomb University, and is pursuing a doctoral degree in Community Care and Counseling from Liberty University. Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her husband, Joe, and their dog, reading, serving with her church, baking, and having board game nights with friends.

Katrina Quick, MD, completed her full spectrum rural family medicine residency at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency program in Casper, WY. During her surgical fellowship in Spokane, WA she became acutely aware of the negative impact that certain health disparities, such as behavioral health, substance use disorder, and high-risk social situations, can have on pregnant mothers and their unborn infants, and what a difference a support system can make. Katrina is grounded in the philosophy that health is a basic human right and aims to deliver equitable care for all patients, free of judgment.

Volunteer Spotlight

Meet Darrell

Darrell Hill has been in recovery for two decades. He first heard about FAVOR in 2014 when he was taking an ADSAP course to get his driver’s license back. Mike Malone and Jeff Spinks shared about FAVOR with the ADSAP students and the seed was planted! He started attending All-Recovery meetings and getting involved.

FAVOR Upstate Featured Book of the Month

FAVOR Upstate houses a sizable library in the Greenville Center that is open to all. Stop by and browse our selection: if you need a book, take a book. Or if you have a book, leave a book. Special thanks to Beth Holladay-Edwards for volunteering her services to highlight a different book each month.

Still Waters: Sobriety, Atonement and Unfolding Enlightenment by William Alexander (also the author of Cool Water)

William Alexander got clean and sober in 1984. On the outside, all was well. He was married, working, and healthy. Yet as the years passed, he became increasingly discontent. Something important, something profound was missing in his long-term sobriety. Here, with marvelous insight and agile humor, Alexander leads readers through the deeply personal twists and turns of his spiritual reckoning and eventual reawakening. His style is direct yet welcoming. His stories are stunning in their simplicity. Readers who long for something more in recovery from addiction will find true bearings in Alexander's spiritual meanderings and take comfort in his musings.
