Larry H. Hoover Memorial Scholarship
Fairfield County Foundation
|
In 1960, armed with a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University in Agricultural Mechanization and Systems (Ag Engineering), Larry L. Hoover set out to become a self-made farmer. He worked as a farm manager, learning from his experience, until he and his wife, Julie, could save enough money to purchase 160 acres in Fairfield County. Always the critical thinker, as a young farmer, Larry continued to learn as he experimented with the newest methods in agriculture and shared his findings with other farmers in Ohio.
Larry’s love of farming was matched by his love of knowledge, as he was always learning how he could improve his farm and business. And he never missed an opportunity to teach others how agriculture sustains us. The Hoover family farm hosted all kinds of events, farm tours, meetings, picnics, even music recitals. Each one gave Larry an opportunity to bring farming to life for those who assume their food just comes from the grocery store.
In 2018, to honor his memory, Larry’s friends and family established this scholarship to continue to support his love of agriculture and learning, thereby making the world a better place, just as he did.
Applicants must be a junior or senior in college and must be majoring in an agricultural-related field of study.
Interested applicants must apply online at www.fairfieldcountyfoundation.org/scholarships.
The application for the 2023-2024 academic year is currently open until March 10, 2023.
