8th Grade Promotion Ceremony 
Thursday, June 6th at 8:40 am

8:40 am—8th graders arrive (dressed and ready) as usual and report to their homerooms to discuss expectations for the day. Please bring students on time so they know what is going on!

9:15 - 10:00 am - PTO provides a buffet-style breakfast for 8th graders and immediate family (siblings and guardians only) in Memorial’s beautiful new atrium. Park on the Mineral Point side of Memorial and enter through the “Neighborhood Center.”

10:00 am - promotion ceremony begins in Memorial’s gym (enter through field house doors)

Balloons, noisemakers, signs, and other decor will not be allowed into the gym (there will be a place outside of the gym to store these things during the ceremony)

There will be a cake reception immediately following the ceremony. Students are then welcome to go home with their families to celebrate!

This week, Ms. Willsnack's 7th grade FCE class made homemade salad dressing for their hydroponically grown lettuce.

Dear Gillespie Families, 

As we approach the end of the school year, students will be taking two assessments to help measure their growth towards proficiency in both reading and math. These tests will take place the week of May 13th. These tests will help us measure your child’s academic progress throughout the year. 

Please speak with your child about the importance of these assessments. In addition to helping us plan for instruction for your child in their classes, this data is also used by MMSD high schools in order to determine class placements in 9th grade. It is crucial that your child do their best on each of these assessments. 

A general overview of each assessment is listed below. 

Achieve 3000 Levelset
This screening helps us predict which students are on track to meet grade level standards and which students will need additional instructional enrichment or support. It can be viewed as a “thermometer,” or indicator of student reading development. Literacy screeners are designed to predict successful reading of connected text. This data helps teachers plan for instruction and intervention.

i-Ready Assessment
The i-Ready assessment helps teachers and students understand their current math abilities. Students will complete the diagnostic which informs teachers where individual students are in terms of meeting grade level math standards. This data helps teachers plan for instruction and intervention.

We want to ensure a smooth return in the fall with this important update:

4:25 p.m. Tuesday–Friday dismissal

Specific information about bus stops and pick-up/drop-off times will be shared in August. In the meantime, thank you for your engagement, partnership, and continued support of the Madison Metropolitan School District.

The Madison Promise Online Program application window for the 2024-25 school year opened Monday, April 22. The application is open to all students who will be entering grades 6-12 and are interested in virtual learning.

Updated Info From the Health Office

The new CDC guidelines have been accepted by MMSD (thru the medical advisory team) as of 3/12/24. It will affect you in the following ways:
  • No required 5 day isolation. Instead, stay home until you are feeling better and have not had fever, vomiting or diarrhea x 24 hours

  • When feeling better, take precautions for 5 days to avoid getting others sick such as wearing a well fitting mask, covering coughs and sneezes, and washing hands frequently.

  • Our new screener will talk about Respiratory viruses (covid, RSV, and influenza) and not just COVID-19.  No Covid testing will be required.

MSCR / AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM

MSCR Updates: flag football, track, and ultimate frisbee have started. 

Flag football played its first game against Cherokee and did great! Frisbee is run as a club, so all grade levels are welcome. Stay tuned for updates on track meets.

The bike club has officially started. Join Ms. Vena for a relaxing bike ride.
