Celebrating the end of an era as we welcome our new International Trade Executive

After eight years helping our Devon & Plymouth Chamber members to navigate businesses through the world of trade documentation and new overseas opportunities Nick Byrne, our International Trade Manager, is moving on to a brand new adventure.

Stuart Elford, our Chamber CEO, paid tribute to Nick's dedication to the role: "Nick has played a key role in the continued development and delivery of our International Trade Services, supporting companies of all sizes with their international trade requirements and as developing strategic partnership with key stakeholders throughout the county.

"We wish him every success and he will be much missed by members, trading businesses and the team."

The good news is that Nick is leaving our International Trade department in the extremely experienced hands of Jemma Cleave!

Jemma has joined our team as International Trade Executive and is an expert in export documents - including the ATA Carnet, which our Chamber team is authorised to certify.

She started her career within administration and logistics roles for an audiovisual and medical broadcast company where she spent six years coordinating crews and equipment for conferences and events both nationally and internationally.

Jemma then moved to a role as a logistics coordinator for a supplier and manufacturer of ecological equipment, sending research equipment around the world from wildlife sanctuaries in Zambia to Antarctic research vessels in Chile. This allowed her to gain experience in submitting documents such as UK Certificates of Origin and EUR1.

Discover more about the Plymouth and Devon Freeport's Customs Offer

Plymouth and South Devon Freeport benefits from a range of customs measures, allowing imports to enter our custom sites with simplified customs documentation and delayed payment of tariffs if selling on to the UK market or zero tariffs if selling overseas. Freeport customs sites are outside UK customs boundaries. This means that goods brought into the Plymouth and South Devon Freeport customs sites are conceptually still ‘off shore’.
