Research and Creative Activity

Faculty can apply for Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (UGRCA) Mini-Grants

The Experiential Education and Engagement Center encourages and supports undergraduate research and creativity. We have been charged by the Provost with administering funding for undergraduate research and creativity and are working towards this goal by providing mini-grants for faculty research or creative activity that involves undergraduate students. Review of proposals will be done by sub-groups of the Undergraduate Research & Creative Activity advisory group. For more information, including guidelines and proposal cover sheet, click the button below.

Research Project Highlight

The invasive vine kudzu is a familiar sight across Alabama. Students Rachel Davenport, Braxton Talbot, and Brittney Smith are currently working on a kudzu-related research project with Dr. Claudia Stein in the AUM Department of Biology and Environmental Sciences. They are testing the effect of a strain of bacteria that live in the roots of kudzu on the growth rates of different crops such as corn and beans seen here.

Creative Activity Highlight

During the Summer of 2023, Kelsey LeMaster, a student pursuing a BFA with a concentration in Graphic Design, created a series of eight vinyl graphics for the Office of Central Advising’s new suite illustrating various ways that AUM students engage with the University.

The panels and accompanying placard have been installed in the Central Advising Office located in Taylor Center room 145.

Peer Mentor Highlight: Jackson Baker

Hello, my name is Jackson and I’m a sophomore at AUM and an EEEC peer mentor. Before attending AUM, I was overseas in the Army, stationed in Grafenwöhr, Germany. I have traveled to over a dozen and a half countries. I stepped outside of my comfort zone by communicating with people who did not know English, which within itself was very difficult. Over the course of three and a half years, I earned the rank of Sergeant. As a sergeant, I had to effectively communicate with my peers and subordinates every day to get our job completed. As a peer mentor, I’m looking forward to guiding everyone in the right direction for whomever may need it. After graduating, I plan on commissioning back into the Army and afterward go into politics.

Community Engagement & Service-Learning

Students, faculty, and staff can earn Community Engagement Recognition

Starting in 2023-2024, AUM’s faculty, staff, and students are eligible for recognition for their Community Engaged work. These designations and awards will recognize AUM’s many contributions to our local and River Region communities. Apply by March 1st for recognition in the April ceremony. The application will be available on November 15th and can be accessed by clicking the button below.

Community Engagement Recognition

Second Annual Service-Learning Expo

On October 18th, 29 community partners and campus clubs and organizations shared service-learning and community engagement opportunities in which the AUM community could participate.

Students, Faculty, and Staff Serve at Shady Street

Friday, October 27, approximately 40 faculty, staff, and students served at Shady Street. If you’d like to get involved with the community and to help contribute to a previously neglected area of northern Montgomery, join us Friday, November 17, 2023. Volunteers will meet at Taylor Center, leaving campus at 9 a.m. and returning at 12:30 p.m. each day. Participants should bring water and wear close-toed shoes.

Join the Service & Leadership Club

This semester, several AUM peer mentors established the Service and Leadership Club (SLC). The purpose of the club is to promote and provide accountable service and awareness of issues on a community, national, and global level; develop and maintain mutually beneficial relationship between the community and university; and be a resource to students, faculty, staff, student organizations and projects, and community partners looking to do such work with Auburn University at Montgomery. All full-time, part-time, graduate, undergraduate, and alumni students as regular members and faculty and staff as associate members are eligible for membership. For more information or to join, please email aum.slc@aum.edu

Service & Leadership Club and UNIV serve at Coat Drive &

Trunk or Treat Event

C.H.A.N.G.E., Young Men on A Mission and TyTalks, 501c3, and other community members and organizations – including AUM’s Service and Leadership Club and UNIV Student Success Program- collaborated to host a Coat Drive and Trunk or Treat event on October 25, 2023, from 6pm-8pm. Organizations and community members handed out candy to neighborhood children and donated gently used coats that will be distributed to unhoused individuals at a later date. Club Treasurer Emilee McCracken organized the event and donated several coats for the cause. UNIV lecturer Dr. Djuana Duncombe-Paden’s students were in attendance and helped hand out candy.
