NEWPORT LIBERTY HALF MARATHON

STREET CLOSURES

SATURDAY, SEPT. 23RD

Thousands of runners are expected to take to Jersey City’s streets on Saturday as part of the Newport Liberty Half Marathon and 5K.

With a course spanning from Newport Green Park to Liberty State Park, the event, hosted by NYC Runs, will cause traffic disruptions and limit both vehicle and pedestrian access from 6:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m.

According to the event organizer:

"All of the building management companies have been emailed by our Communications teams." Flyers have been posted and handed off to doormen where possible, and all local businesses and large buildings have been emailed

and called where necessary.

Additionally, the office of Cultural affairs states:

The City has been circulating the following Traffic Advisory that was created by the event organizer. VMS boards will be posted in the area.

The garages on North Blvd will remain open the entire time. The Newport Half Marathon utilizes only the center of the roadway there to ensure residents are able to get their vehicles in and out safely.

Also, residents that need to exit the area could consider parking in the South or West Garages in Newport. There is no designated parking but these options should be noted.

The city has confirmed that the Farmers Market will still be able to operate. "As you’ll see on the map," Director Christina Goodman states, "the footprint of the Farmers Market (the end of Washington St) will be accessible. The Market sets up at 7:30am. Full closures will be in effect by 8am. Probably a good idea to leave a little more time to get in due to traffic. 7am is probably a good buffer. Mile 11 will be cleared by 11:30am with all roads fully reopened by noon."

Starting and finishing in the Newport neighborhood of Jersey City, the host organization's website says, the half-marathon course will take you on a tour of historic Jersey City and will feature world-class views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and the stunning Manhattan Skyline.

This event is considered one of the most scenic, flattest, and fastest half marathons in the Tri-State area. The race’s starting and finish lines are at Newport-on-the-Waterfront Park. It includes a 13.1-mile course taking runners through city sights including Liberty State Park, Green Park, the Harborside Financial Center, and the Newport Town Square.

Please note - the 5K division is completely sold out!
