Expanding Our Excellence
CNE Finds New Home

After nearly a decade affiliated with Pikes Peak United Way, the Center for Nonprofit Excellence has identified a new space for its offices at 723 N. Weber St. in Colorado Springs. The board and staff are excited about the organization's growth and new opportunities to serve the nonprofit sector as they transition their offices following their Nonprofit Day Conference in March.

"The Center for Nonprofit Excellence, along with its program Front Range Executive Service Corps, enters a new era of service to the nonprofit sector as we make this physical move," says Dave Somers, executive director. "At the same time, we are so thankful for the generous support from Pikes Peak United Way, which has enabled us to reach this important day in our organization's history. Pikes Peak United Way's dedication to and financial support of the Center has ensured that our region has a local organization to deliver needed programs and services for all nonprofits."

The Center for Nonprofit Excellence began in 1991 as the Chamber Nonprofit Partnership with such visionary community leaders as R. Thayer Tutt Jr., Brenda Smith, and Cathy Robbins, and it was affiliated with the then Colorado Springs Chamber of Commerce. Later the organization moved and joined Pikes Peak United Way and became known as the Center for Nonprofit Excellence. In 2008 the organization added a new program, the Front Range Executive Service Corps (FRESC), which provides professional consulting services. Today the Center's mission remains the same--to strengthen nonprofits in Southern Colorado through leadership and resource development, advocacy and collaboration.

"Having supported CNE's initial growth over the past ten years, we at Pikes Peak United Way are especially proud of the educational impact this organization has had in advancing our city's nonprofit sector," says President/CEO Jason Wood. "And look forward to witnessing its continued growth."

Somers believes that the new site will strengthen the Center's role in the community to serve nonprofits of all sizes and types, from health and human service to child development, education, arts and culture, animal welfare, faith-based, environmental, housing, military, and more. The Center comprises a staff of three, and the organization works in close collaboration with numerous foundations, corporate partners, and nonprofit organizations in Colorado Springs and throughout the state.
