Hello from the team at Ararat PAC!
We are super excited to bring
"The Exotic Lives Of Lola Montez" to the region with a whirlwind three venue tour!
She horsewhipped the editor of the Ballarat Times for giving her a bad review
Swung down mineshafts on a single rope with champagne in hand
Escaped arrest dressed only in jewels
Her performances 'the most indelicate that could be given on public stage'
Shrouded in gold nuggets. Sharp with insults. Swathed in scandal
In 1855 the wildest showgirl of the nineteenth century, Lola Montez, toured the Australian goldfields and now she is touring the Grampians !
Steeped in history, this rollicking performance travels the extraordinary life and legend of this remarkably adventurous woman.
And the reviews......
"There's really no adequate way of explaining these spectaculars to those yet to witness one, and those who have won't forget it in a hurry... seductive, subversive and bursting at the seams with monstrous talent"
- The Age
"What a night; 90 minutes of hilarious, truthful history, erotic, exotic, confronting and exciting, but above all, like everything else Finucane & Smith do, Lola is engrossing and enjoyable" Peter Arthur Green 3MBS

Swirl up into this tantalisingly gentle, intimate, and beautiful musical tale about remarkable creatures and what makes us human.
Nobody saw this happen so it may or may not be true.
A woman lives in the middle of a city, next to a tree that smells of lemons. In this tree lives a family of crows, but their home is threatened by developers looking to build inner city apartments where factories and shops used to be. One day, the child of the crows falls from the nest. As night falls, the neighbourhood cats move in for the kill. The woman intervenes and her encounter with the crows and their child transforms her life and ultimately transforms her.
The Crow Family contains some strong coarse language and some depictions of dysfunctional families.
Duration 60 minutes

The Show
In 1855 the wildest showgirl of the nineteenth century, Lola Montez, toured Australia & its goldfields.
The scandal is legend.
From award-winning playwright Jackie Smith and world famous cabaret stars Finucane & Smith comes the story of The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez.
Starring triple Green Room Award Winners of Best Actress Miss Caroline Lee (who is also a direct descendant of Lola herself!) and Parisian dance siren Mme Holly Durant, The Exotic Lives of Lola Montez is a wildly contemporary dreamscape steeped in Australian history. Discover the story behind one of the world's most adventurous women.
Lola Montez's erotic Spider Dance was "The most libertinish and indelicate performance that could be give
n on the public stage" wrote the Sydney Morning Herald in 1855. She horsewhipped the editor of the Ballarat Times for giving her a bad review. She swung down mineshafts on a single rope with a flute of champagne in her hand. She escaped arrest dressed only in her jewels.
Now, watch her rollick into Ararat and let the erotic scandal commence!

Redevelopment Update
The Ararat Arts Precinct Redevelopment is progressing well with significant internal works opening up the gallery as well as slabs being laid for the new gallery exhibition space, collection storage areas, Performing Arts Centre foyer and café.
Builders from Ballarat-based firm, Nicholson Construction, have been hard at work since construction was officially opened by as Minister for Regional Development Jaala Pulford in April. The $7.735 million redevelopment project is a joint partnership between Federal and State Government and the Ararat Rural City.
The Community Fundraising Campaign has attracted $130,000 in received and pledged donations to date. We are very grateful to all of the people who have shown their support for this project, including the Ararat Eisteddfod with their incredibly generous donation. The redevelopment is truly transformational and will deliver exciting outcomes for the many community users groups, productions, schools and our extensive curated performing arts program.
Your support of this project can come in any amount and is greatly appreciated.
For
donors who contribute $500 or more will have their names included on a donors' board to be displayed in the foyer.
