King Charles III England Coast Path

Photos by Shaun Davey

Eagled eyed walkers may have spotted some brand-new signposts springing up recently, along what will be the Exmoor leg of the King Charles III England Coast Path. Exmoor National Park have been supporting Natural England on improvements to sections of this 35 mile stretch, so that walkers at popular Exmoor spots such as ‘Hurlstone Point’, ‘North Hill’ and ‘Glenthorne’ can enjoy revived ancient paths and more scenic views. Thank you to all our amazing volunteers who have helped us with this.

The King Charles III England Coast Path stretches around the whole of the coast of England, taking in existing coastal national trails like the South West Coast Path (SWCP) but offering new public access to link up and improve existing Exmoor routes, enabling people to better experience and value the benefits of this very special landscape. We’ll be announcing full details very soon on the six sections of the Coast Path where the route will be enhanced.

Kings Wood

Recently planted trees are now starting to produce leaves in Kings Wood!

Thanks to your donations to the CareMoor 'Woods and Trees' appeal, we’ve been planting 6,000 trees to create sustainable woodland in Simonsbath.

Thank you to all the donors and volunteers who have helped plant the new woodland.

Work starts on Great Bradley Bridge

You might have heard we are building a new bridge (Great Bradley Bridge) across the River Barle, to provide a secure, sustainable route along the Two Moors Way between Tarr Steps and Withypool all year round.

It's a big project taking place in a difficult and sensitive location. For public safety we need to close some sections of the paths from 31 May until Dec 2024, but the circular walk from Tarr Steps and the footbridge at Hinds Pit are still open.

Nature Recovery

We are working on developing projects to help protect our wildlife and reduce devastation to woodland. We are working with Red Squirrel South-West on a project on the north coast of Exmoor, to reduce numbers of grey squirrels in the area. Through monitoring populations and targeted control, we can help restore our biodiversity. Find out more about the Exmoor Squirrel Project.

You might have heard in the news recently about Pine Martens returning to Dartmoor and Exmoor National Park as part of the ‘Two Moors Pine Marten Project’ - a partnership led by the Devon Wildlife Trust, with support from Dartmoor National Park Authority, Exmoor National Park Authority, Forestry England, National Trust, Somerset Wildlife Trust, and Woodland Trust).

We’re aware this is a controversial subject that creates conversation on social media so take a look at some answers to frequently asked questions.

CareMoor Thanks

Thank you to all those individuals and organisations that have supported access and conservation within Exmoor through donations to CareMoor for Exmoor. Without your ongoing support for our appeals and projects we wouldn’t be able to continue our work to conserve the landscapes, habitats, footpaths and heritage of Exmoor. A truly special place which you are all helping to safeguard for future generations.
