President's Message
Greetings RIMS Washington Chapter Members!

I hope you all had a great summer and took some much-needed time off. I am excited to continue as the 2021-2022 Chapter President.

Our Chapter’s mission is to advance the risk management profession and member participation through fellowship, education, and community service. Chapter leadership met in July to plan for our next fiscal term that runs through June 30, 2022 and developed the following goals to support our mission:

  • Add session learning objectives for each educational event.
  • Obtain meaningful feedback from attendees.
  • Encourage peer member participation during events.
  • Increase board engagement with Chapter members.
  • Utilize local small, minority-owned businesses to support our events.

In the coming months, we have several education events planned for our members and chapter supporters. We have determined that meetings through the end of 2021 will be virtual-only given current pandemic conditions.

Keep your eye out for registration emails for more event details.

We are happy to announce the launch of our new Chapter Website! Read through our September newsletter for more details or visit us at www.warims.org to view it yourself!

If you’re not on our mailing list, you can sign up on our Chapter Website or connect with us on LinkedIn.

If you have any ideas on how the RIMS Washington Chapter can further your risk management educational, networking needs or are interested in volunteering your time in any way, please email me here.

We hope to see you in person and offer hybrid meeting options soon!

Tracy Elliott
RIMS Washington Chapter President
Upcoming Programs
Our members health and safety are of our highest priority. Given the increasing cases of COVID and the Delta variant, the RIMS Washington Chapter plans on hosting free, virtual events through the end of calendar year 2021. We hope to resume in-person monthly educational events in 2022.

Speakers: Mark Girolamo, Joe Hamilton, Erin Hoffman, Heather Reynolds, Gary Shertenlieb - AIG
Theresa Craw - Nordstrom

As we wrap up 2021, we continue to navigate a period of great volatility and uncertainty. Join us as we hear from expert leaders from AIG as we discuss the realities of today's challenging landscape, provide an update on current insurance market trends, loss prevention and identify key considerations for the path forward. What continues as a firming insurance market, has become even more challenged as a result of the convergence of factors ranging from increasing loss frequency and severity, to a reduction of capital, heightened focus on profitability and pending Business Interruption lawsuits from COVID and liability claims of COVID. We will discuss the impact of these circumstances reflected in the hardening insurance market across the board, and most severely for long tail products such as (D&O, Excess Liability, and workers comp).

In addition, this panel discussion will discuss key considerations around evaluating risk and setting realistic expectations for the current market conditions and potential impact on budget. Hear from a local Director of Finance and Insurance, Theresa Craw of Nordstrom on key learnings and areas of focus for the management of risk for the balance of 2021.

This course is approved by the Washington Office of Insurance Commissioner for 1 hour of CE credit. (CE Course Number: 627085)
