Life of inclusion for individuals with disabilities
News, Life-Stories and Events from UCP of Stanislaus County September 2021
Director's Corner
Greeting from UCP of Stanislaus. We have had a busy couple of months preparing for Day Programs to open back up. In July we had to say good-bye to our long time friend and staff member Andres. We were all sad to see him go and wish him well in his new adventure. We are happy to announce we have hired a new Day Programs Manager, Marisol Moreno. Welcome to the UCP Family!
Marisol started her career working as a Direct Support Professional over 25 years ago working with people with Developmental Disabilities in a level 4- H / 15 bed facility for 15 years.
She then went on to work for another 13 years in a Day Program in Stanislaus as a Case Coordinator and was promoted several times before finally becoming Director of Adult Services supporting adults with disabilities overseeing 3 different programs.
Marisol shares that for almost 30 years her mission has become to improve the lives of individuals she supports by helping them to self-advocate, empower them and to help create choices and opportunities that enhance the quality of their lives.
She is excited about her new role with UCP and is looking forward to meeting all the staff, members, families, and providers.
When not at work, you may find her spending time with her husband, two kids, and her 2 dogs, camping traveling or at her many large family events.
Direct Support Professional Week
Direct Support Professional (DSP) Recognition Week (September 12th-18th) is a great opportunity to highlight the dedicated, group of people at the heart of UCP Programs. UCP of Stanislaus County would like to honor all of our DSP’s for their amazing efforts and dedication to advancing UCP's mission and for making a difference in the day to day lives of so many individuals with disabilities. Thank you to all our DSP's!
UCP Programs
UCP Day Programs have opened their doors after 18 months of closure! While it is a slow phased approach to opening to keep everyone safe and follow COVID safety protocol, it has been great to hear laughter and fun happening in our buildings again. We are hopeful that eventually we will be able to welcome more participants back in later phases. We appreciate the patience of our participants and their caretakers during this time as we try to navigate Day Program during the pandemic.

UCP Recycling
Thank you to all the Go Green with UCP current and potential customers. During this difficult time, you may be experiencing some intermittent interruptions in your recycling services. The interruptions in service have been directly related to staffing shortages due to COVID-19. These issues are ongoing and as such you will continue to experience the intermittent interruptions in your recycling service. We appreciate your patience, understanding and loyalty during this time. In addition, the Go Green with UCP Recycling Program will not be accepting any new clients at this time. If you are interested in service, we encourage you to check back next month for any updates. Thank you.
If you have any questions, feel free to call (209) 622-1030 and leave a message and someone will return your call as soon as possible.
Community Resource
Going back to work or even starting work for the first time can be a bit scary and overwhelming. Add into that mix receiving Social Security benefits and you have a great recipe for anxiety and misinformation. Working while receiving Social Security benefits has long been a confusing tangle of rules and regulations that most people tend to avoid all together. Either you decide to work and not report your income, or you decide to avoid working all together. There is a program in the community that can help you figure all of it out and help walk you through the steps.
The Disability Resource Agency for Independent Living (DRAIL) has a program called Work Incentives Planning and Assistance and it is there to help you understand how your Social Security benefit is affected by working and earning money. The specialists at DRAIL are called Community Work Incentive Coordinators (CWIC) and they are trained by Social Security in all things related to Social Security and working. If you are currently working and are receiving a Social Security benefit, or if you are receiving a Social Security benefit and are thinking about work, DRAIL’s WIPA program can help you understand how your Social Security benefit is affected and what work incentives are available to you. Give them a call today to set up an appointment to go over your specific scenario.
