Industry News

It seems that the global travel and tourism industry is finally seeing its long-awaited post-pandemic rebound as it emerges from a two-year slump, the likes of which the sector had never seen before. Although, lest we forget, its recovery remains susceptible to volatile factors like new COVID-19 variants, the global economy and Russia’s war still raging in Ukraine.

'People need to make their own decisions'
CNN Medical Analyst Dr. Leana Wen told CNN Travel before the CDC's latest move that we're in "a phase in the pandemic where people need to make their own decisions based on their medical circumstances as well as their risk tolerance when it comes to contracting Covid-19."

From high school soccer tournaments to the World Cup, sports-related travel is a major driver for local and national economies across the U.S and around the world. Passionate sports fans, eager to travel after sticking close to home during COVID-19, are investing big bucks to become part of the action.

The purpose of the majority of events is to bring people together for a common, worthwhile experience. All participants are sharing in an event that is meaningful to them, whether it is roaring spectators at a sold-out stadium, a private poetry reading, or a business conference that is reshaping an industry. The latest technical development in the world of events is called the “metaverse.”

Most event professionals have already been through a crash course in hosting virtual events thanks to the pandemic, but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to keep up with expectations. To stay ahead of the competition and keep remote audiences engaged, event planners need to leverage both their own creativity and industry best practices for online events. Here are 37 virtual event ideas to inspire your upcoming events.

Prince George’s County didn’t feel like a place to make movies when actress Kike Ayodeji grew up. She loved film festivals, but she had to drive to D.C. and Philadelphia or fly to Los Angeles to reach them. The first film to represent Prince George’s that came to mind for her was a 2020 documentary about the county’s long list of accomplished basketball players.
