With summer in full swing, and temperatures on the rise, here are a few things to keep in mind.
Social Wellness Month
July is Social Wellness Month. Being connected to community as well as individuals is especially important for older adults.
Senior isolation creates and compounds physical and emotional health issues. Check out Scottsdale Senior Services for a full menu of social opportunities. Find something that speaks to your loved one's hobbies and interests and enjoy getting out of the house.
UV Safety Month
Along with that great summer sun comes the need to protect ourselves from its harmful rays. Don’t forget to take sunscreen on any of your planned outings, and limit exposure for yourself and your loved ones. With the extreme heat warning, it's important to check in with your loved ones and make sure they're comfortable at home. If for whatever reason the AC breaks down, consider visiting a public library or a relief center. Here are some tips on surviving the AZ summer heat.
Every Body Deserves a Massage
July 16-22 is Every Body Deserves a Massage Week which provides the perfect opportunity to schedule one for someone you love. Massage is increasingly regarded as an important tool for maintaining a healthy body, mind and spirit. For those new to massage, it’s important to understand the different types.
Mayo Clinic classifies massages four ways:
Swedish massage - a gentle form of massage that uses long strokes, kneading, deep circular movements, vibration and tapping to help relax and energize you.
Deep massage - uses slower, more-forceful strokes to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.
Sports massage – similar to Swedish massage, but it's geared toward people involved in sport activities to help prevent or treat injuries.
Trigger point massage - focuses on areas of tight muscle fibers that can form in your muscles after injuries or overuse.
Before you schedule a massage for yourself or a loved one, talk to them about what to expect. Also, check with a physician to ensure that massage is a suitable form of therapy for yourself or your loved one.
Hats Off To Bob Roth
Managing Partner, Bob Roth is honored to have been appointed a seat on Governor Doug Ducey's Advisory Council on Aging.
"It's a privilege to have this seat at the table representing not only the older adults that we serve but to represent the home care and home health care community. The old adage goes something like this; "If you don't have a seat at the table you just might find yourself on the menu."
