Dear Mary,
As Jews, we are like a single entity; united at our core. Just look to this week’s Torah portion for one of the greatest examples of this: Moses ascended the mountain for 40 days.
When he didn’t return on what the people mistakenly calculated as the 40th day, they assumed that he had died. Certain rabble-rousers incited the others to create a replacement for their leader—the infamous Golden Calf.
Although Moses himself obviously wasn’t involved in creating the idol, nor was the majority of the Jewish nation, because of their inherent unity even those who were technically innocent were affected by this horrendous act. Moses, who wasn’t even present when it occurred, was demoted in G-d’s eyes. As a result, it became his responsibility to beg G-d for forgiveness and atone for all the people—which he did successfully, because it was personal for him.
The same is true across the board: when a single member of our nation is in crisis, it becomes all of our collective responsibility to help that one Jew. How much more so when many of our fellow Jews find themselves in peril—the feeling of Jewish unity and shared responsibility must be front and center for all of us.
Since the events of October 7, the worldwide Jewish nation has proven that we are indeed one entity. We continue to demonstrate that no matter where we may be, physically or spiritually, and no matter the pushback we may receive, every single Jew around the world will stand up for our brothers and sisters. We pray, donate, do extra mitzvahs, and demand their safe return.
Most importantly, we demand of G-d to bring an end to all the suffering of our fellow Jews, with the coming Moshiach, may it be today!
Shabbat Shalom,

Doing What’s Right Isn’t Always about Right Now
Any investor understands that it takes risk, effort, and a long time of seeing no return to really reap the benefits later. As we continue our millennia-long Exile and look at our Temple in ruins, think of all this time as an investment: amazing returns are coming our way.

Parshat Ki Tisa
The name of the Parshah, "Ki Tisa," means "When you take" and it is found in Exodus 30:11.
The people of Israel are told to each contribute exactly half a shekel of silver to the Sanctuary. Instructions are also given regarding the making of the Sanctuary’s water basin, anointing oil and incense. “Wise-hearted” artisans Betzalel and Aholiav are placed in charge of the Sanctuary’s construction, and the people are once again commanded to keep the Shabbat.
When Moses does not return when expected from Mount Sinai, the people make a golden calf and worship it. G‑d proposes to destroy the errant nation, but Moses intercedes on their behalf. Moses descends from the mountain carrying the tablets of the testimony engraved with the Ten Commandments; seeing the people dancing about their idol, he breaks the tablets, destroys the golden calf, and has the primary culprits put to death. He then returns to G‑d to say: “If You do not forgive them, blot me out from the book that You have written.”
G‑d forgives, but says that the effect of their sin will be felt for many generations. At first G‑d proposes to send His angel along with them, but Moses insists that G‑d Himself accompany His people to the promised land.
Moses prepares a new set of tablets and once more ascends the mountain, where G‑d reinscribes the covenant on these second tablets. On the mountain, Moses is also granted a vision of the divine thirteen attributes of mercy. So radiant is Moses’ face upon his return, that he must cover it with a veil, which he removes only to speak with G‑d and to teach His laws to the people.
