Erie Canal Amenities Study Update
Work is well underway on our Amenities Study with significant progress made this summer to evaluate existing conditions and develop long-term plans for recreational amenities along the Erie Canal and Erie Canalway Trail. The NYS Canal Corporation and NYS DEC's Mohawk River Watershed Basin Program are providing technical and funding support and Colliers Engineering & Design is conducting the assessment. Between May and July, we facilitated stakeholder meetings with cycling, boating, paddling, and rowing user groups; and partners representing tourism, accessibility, businesses, and municipalities. Field work, which began in June, is nearly done. The study will be completed in early 2025.

"Unbelievable trip. I loved the hospitality of the small towns along the Erie Canal. I loved how the towns had made it possible to camp. The locks were gorgeous. It was amazing to not have to worry really about cars when biking. New York did an amazing job here."
- Stephen P., Miami Beach, FL, 360-Mile End-to-Ender
