Miller: ‘First war that Israel may actually lose’

A former Shaker Heights resident, he began by addressing his roots and homecoming as he said, “You can take the boy out of Cleveland, but the truth is you can’t take Cleveland out of the boy.”

Rep. Brown victim of swatting incident


U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown’s home in Warrensville Heights was targeted in a swatting attempt on Jan. 29. The Warrensville Heights Police Department was directed to her address by a hoax message and took prompt action to investigate the matter, according to a news release.

Ulmer & Berne to merge with St. Louis’ Greensfelder law firm


Ulmer & Berne LLP in Cleveland will combine with Greensfelder Hemker & Gale PC, headquartered in St. Louis, effective Feb. 1, to create a new law firm, UB Greensfelder. The merger will create an AM Law 200, Midwest-focused law firm with nine offices and 275 lawyers over five states and Washington, D.C.

White House: UNRWA has done ‘a lot of amazing work’ in Gaza


John Kirby, the U.S. National Security Council spokesman, on Monday lauded the “good work” done by UNRWA amid mounting evidence that more than a thousand of the U.N. agency’s employees are members of terrorist organizations. “Let’s not impugn the good work of a whole agency because of the potential bad actions here by a small number,” Kirby told reporters during a briefing in the West Wing of the White House.

Netanyahu: No withdrawal from Gaza or freeing many terrorists for hostages


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday pledged not to free large numbers of Palestinian terrorists or withdraw troops from Gaza as part of a hostage deal with the Hamas terrorist organization. “We will not withdraw the Israel Defense Forces from the Gaza Strip and we will not release thousands of terrorists. None of this will happen,” Netanyahu told students and staff during a visit to the Bnei David pre-military academy in Eli in Samaria’s Binyamin region.

Holocaust and Srebrenica survivors launch Jewish-Muslim effort to prevent genocides


To mark International Holocaust Remembrance Day this weekend, several prominent Holocaust survivors and Jewish leaders headed to the site of a different genocide — that of Bosnian Muslims in the 1990s. They were there alongside Bosnian Muslim leaders to launch a new initiative aimed at advocating for peace and preventing future genocides.

Anshe Chesed Fairmount Temple will start offering a fertility support group on Feb. 4 at 23737 Fairmount Blvd. in Beachwood. Spearheaded by Rabbi Elle Muhlbaum, the program aims to “build connections at different stages of our lives through different lenses,” she said in a news release.
