Community celebrates Jewish Heritage Night at Captains game


Children, adults, clergy from several synagogues and temples and representatives from local Jewish organizations enjoyed a night filled with activities, food, culture and baseball. Special guests at the game, including Eitan Levine, TikTok star and Guinness World Record holder, and Lake County Captains mascot Horatio, joined in on the festivities.

Vehicle crashes into JFSA-owned home; no injuries


A vehicle crashed into a house owned by the Jewish Family Service Association of Cleveland at 2245 S. Green Road in University Heights around 10:20 p.m. Aug. 31, Andy Boylan, executive captain of the University Heights Fire Department, told the Cleveland Jewish News on Sept. 3.

Browns sign 20-year stadium rights deal with Huntington Bank as they position for possible new home


The Browns changed the name of their lakefront stadium while they consider changing addresses. As they position themselves to build a possible new domed stadium, the Browns announced a 20-year partnership on Tuesday with Huntington National Bank, which bought exclusive naming rights.

Youngkin orders Virginia flags at half-staff for Hersh Goldberg-Polin


Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin ordered flags at half-staff “in memory and honor of Hersh Goldberg-Polin,” the Republican’s office stated on Sunday. A spokesman for the governor told JNS that the order applies to all flags in the state on Tuesday. “After 330 agonizing days since the brutal terrorist attack on Israel on Oct. 7 that left more than 1,200 dead and hundreds more held hostage, Johnathan Polin and Rachel Goldberg woke up to unimaginable news that no parent should ever receive,” Youngkin stated on Sunday.

U of Maryland won’t allow pro-Palestinian group to hold event on Oct. 7 after first permitting it


The University of Maryland has revoked a permit for pro-Palestinian groups to hold an event on the one-year anniversary of the Oct. 7 attacks in Israel, following concerns from Jewish groups that such an event could glorify the Hamas killings. According to the campus Students for Justice in Palestine chapter, the planned event was a “vigil” to be held jointly with the school’s chapter of the anti-Zionist group Jewish Voice for Peace. University President Darryll Pines announced the change in a letter to the school on Sunday, writing that “numerous calls have been made to cancel and restrict the events that take place that day.”
