Cleveland Play House recently announced its 2024-25 season for the Allen and Outcalt stages at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland. Hudson-based Joann files for bankruptcy; delisted on Nasdaq


Fabric and crafts retailer Joann in Hudson, which traces its roots to a German-Jewish family in Northeast Ohio, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March and its stock was to be delisted from the Nasdaq stock market on March 28.

Airstrike kills Hamas leader's family members; Biden says Israel needs to boost aid to Gaza


On Tuesday, U.S. President Joe Biden called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s handling of the war in Gaza a mistake and urged his government to flood the beleaguered territory with aid. He repeated that call again Wednesday, saying the efforts to boost aid were “not enough” and demanding another entry point for trucks in northern Gaza.

Title IV investigations into U of M, Youngstown State, Philly school district


The U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights named three more educational institutions on Tuesday that would face investigations for potential discrimination involving shared ancestry. The School District of Philadelphia, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and Youngstown State University in Ohio will undergo federal scrutiny in their responses to bigotry at their respective academic institution.

Sharpe receives Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine


The 11th annual Harrington Prize for Innovation in Medicine was awarded to Dr. Arlene Sharpe, a professor at Kolokotrones University and chair of the department of immunology at Harvard Medical School in Boston, according to a news release. The award recognizes Sharpe’s breakthrough discoveries in immune regulation, which has established principles in immunology and led to new cancer therapies, according to the release, that act by boosting the immune response to cancer.

Cleveland Pickle Fest scheduled for Sept. 21


Greater Cleveland Volunteers will host its sixth annual Cleveland Pickle Fest from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 21 at Mall C in downtown Cleveland. The event will offer pickles and pickle-themed products from local and regional companies, including pickle-flavored beer, desserts, drinks, candy and non-food merchandise, a news release said.
