City Club settles into new Playhouse Square first-floor home


While the City Club of Cleveland will officially have a grand opening of its new facility in Playhouse Square at its annual meeting Oct. 27, the space has already been bustling with energy. On the morning of Sept. 15, before the start of Rosh Hashanah, a full-capacity crowd of 330 attended the first forum in the new space located on the first floor of 1317 Euclid Ave to listen to a conversation between Mayors Justin Bibb of Cleveland and Aftab Pureval of Cincinnati.

Solon HR director placed on leave, accused of assaulting employee


The human resources director for the city of Solon has been placed on leave following an altercation that took place at Solon City Hall on Sept. 7. Allyne Zamcheck, 75, who works at the front desk of city hall filed a police report with the Solon Police Department at 5 p.m. Sept. 11, alleging she was the victim of an assault by co-worker Yolanda Guzman, the city’s human resources director.

B’nai Jehurun marks Tashlich


B’nai Jeshurun Congregation in Pepper Pike held two Tashlich programs between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. One took place at the Shaker Lakes Nature Center, where attendees joined together for song, a short service and cast their sins into the lake using bird seed.

‘Long overdue,’ Israel is first in Middle East in US Visa Waiver Program


U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas announced on Wednesday that Israel has been admitted officially as the 41st nation in the U.S. Visa Waiver Program. The announcement, which the secretary made in consultation with U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken, means that as of Nov. 30, Israelis will be able to visit the United States for fewer than 90 days without a visa.

Ben-Gvir nixes Tel Aviv prayers after counter-protesters agree to move service


Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced on Wednesday evening the cancelation of a planned prayer service in Tel Aviv, after organizers of a counterdemonstration said they were moving their mixed-gender prayers away from Dizengoff Square in a bid to avoid a confrontation.
