Spring school field trips complete!

The Wakefield educational programs for students were a great success this spring. The Mary May Binney Wakefield Arboretum hosted a total of 14 buses of students from Boston Public Schools, Quincy Public Schools and Milton Public Schools for environmental education and local history.

It is so wonderful to see so many young people enjoying the arboretum and everything it has to offer. We look forward to hosting more students this fall.

Pressed flower workshop proves to be a popular new program.

Participants created beautiful pressed flower shadow boxes using plant material collected here at the arboretum. This workshop will be offered again on August 14th at 6PM. Register Here.

Once-a-month Open Garden Saturdays

Starting July 20th the arboretum will be open on the 3rd Saturday of each month. Hours from 9AM-2PM with a garden tour at 11AM. Please call 617-333-0924 to schedule a visit.

Staff Note

Another Dogwood Days has passed allowing us to witness the joy of many new visitors as they stroll around the gardens. This is my 12th Dogwood Days celebration and even though the blooms were few, connections made with visitors and volunteers during many of our new programs and events made it very special. Our most successful event was our family friendly Field Day which was booked to capacity and featured great events including egg-on-spoon races, a dog show, selfies in the jeep and visits with the animals. So many new faces, young and old enjoyed a beautiful June day in the arboretum. Families enjoyed picnics on the lawns and wandered far and wide through the gardens. Another new program was the the pressed flower workshop which was held in the Davenport mansion. I think that Polly Wakefield would have been thrilled to see attendees creating beautiful works of art with some of her plant material.

As a staff, we are always working toward bringing new visitors to this special place. This year's Dogwood Days proved to be a great example of our efforts. Thank you everyone!
