Graduation Coach Debbie Schoen and YPIE Scholar 2017 Samantha
We are so proud of YPIE's Shining Stars, Debbie & Samantha!

YPIE Graduation Coach Debbie Schoen just received some very exciting news from her YPIE Scholar, Samantha. Samantha was offered an Academic Scholarship from Elmira College for $100,000!

Samantha shared how her mentor is helping her achieve her goal of attending college:

"I honestly think the college application process would be a lot more stressful without the extra support of YPIE and my Graduation Coach, Debbie. Debbie pushed me to do better and held my hands through the Summer College Essay Program, which gave me a head start on my college process. My Coach has made a huge difference in my life. She's a loving person who is like a second mother to me. She goes above and beyond and I truly appreciate it."

Welcoming New YPIE Scholars!

Excitement was in the air on the evening of December 14th as YPIE welcomed 114 9th grade students, their families, and 56 volunteer Graduation Coaches into the YPIE Scholars Program. YPIE launched the innovative YPIE Scholars Program in 2013 in an effort to increase the number of Yonkers Public School students who graduate high school with the college and career readiness skills necessary for success in college and beyond.

In addition to welcoming new YPIE Scholars and their Graduation Coaches, attendees of the Holiday Kickoff Event celebrated the success and dedication of YPIE's sophomore class of Scholars and the 53 Graduation Coaches who are committed to mentoring these students through high school graduation. "The list of great things YPIE provides for scholars never disappoints. YPIE helps us get so much farther than we could have gone alone and they've helped me focus on my high school journey and plan for the road ahead. I hope that you enjoy YPIE as much as I do," said Alicia, a Class of 2019 YPIE Scholar.

New YPIE Scholars Leadership Council
Meet Perpetua

Perpetua is a 10th grade student at Yonkers Middle High School and a YPIE Scholar 2019.  She is one of six YPIE Scholars elected by their peers to the newly created Scholars Leadership Council. The Council members are charged with promoting YPIE's mission and acting as student ambassadors at a variety of YPIE events throughout the year.  They also serve as mentors to other students participating in YPIE programs and coordinate team-building activities for their fellow Scholars at the YPIE College Zone.
Perpetua shared her thoughts on her YPIE experienceand the new Leadership Council. When asked how the YPIE staff has had an impact on her life, she spoke enthusiastically about the tutors at the YPIE College Zone and how they help her get academically ready for college success:  "The tutors especially make a difference in our lives.  [There are many] resources that YPIE provides, such as practice questions or review.  If I don't understand it, the tutors are there to help me.  I like that they're able to sit down with me one-on-one."
