Pete Garcia Company earns high honors

Urban Engineers, which provided civil engineering, surveying, and other services for the District at Howell Mill, will be relocating from Atlanta to Peachtree Corners. The company has been in Atlanta since 1986.

Urban Engineers moves to Peachtree Corners

Urban Engineers, Inc. is moving to Peachtree Corners. The surveying and civil engineering company, which has been located off Monroe Drive in Atlanta since 1986, is renovating space at 3850 Holcomb Bridge Road in Peachtree Corners.

Urban Engineers, Inc. was founded by Nelson F. Goetz (Georgia Tech, class of ’51) in 1961 as a full service civil engineering firm handling the metro Atlanta area. Mr. Goetz, an airport engineer with Greiner Engineering at the time, saw a need to provide high quality civil engineering services in the rapidly growing Atlanta market. Over six decades, the company has worked in both the public sector – working on the Fulton County Airport, and designing a section of State Route 400 for the Georgia DOT – as well as serving the private sector, working with Trammell Crow as the engineer of record for the Atlanta Technology Center, and with M.D. Hodges Enterprises on Atlanta Gateway Park.

The company is also known for providing civil engineering and site services for The District at Howell Mill, Integrity Heights in Smyrna, and the Union Station Business Center in Union City, among others.

Company President Dan Wintermeyer said Peachtree Corners is a great location for the company, whose staff are in and out of the office at 7:30 a.m. The city's easy access to I-285 made it a good choice, he said.

Pete Garcia Company inducted in AAF Hall of Fame

Pete Garcia pictured at left with wife, Brenda, recently received the floral industry's highest honor.

Pete Garcia Company, of Peachtree Corners, was inducted into the Society of American Florists Floriculture Hall of Fame in September. It is the floral industry's highest honor. The induction ceremony took place on Sept. 8 during the Stars of the Industry Awards dinner at the organizations 137th Annual Convention in Alexandria, Virginia.

Pete, the son of a Spanish immigrant, had a happenstance entry into the floral industry 66 years ago. In 1956, he left college to provide for his young family and found a job driving a delivery truck in Jacksonville, Florida for Carlstedt, eventually becoming assistant manager of the company.

Over the years, he formed, purchased, and sold more than 25 manufacturing corporations, which enabled him to achieve the gold standard of products that have improved aesthetics, user-friendliness, and workroom efficiency for floral designers. While growing his business, Pete also gave back to the industry, most notably through his service to the Wholesale Florists & Florist Suppliers Association and the American Floral Endowment.
