It's still not to late: Good Gifts do good things

Today only! Select gifts matched, dollar for dollar.

Today is #GivingTuesday, a day when people all over the globe tap into the power of generosity. Together we can strengthen our communities and transform the world.

When you give today, you can double the impact of each gift you give. Thanks to a generous donor, all ELCA Good Gifts benefiting ELCA World Hunger will be matched — dollar for dollar — until we reach $150,000. This offer expires tonight, so make sure you give by 11:59 p.m. Central time.

God is calling us into the world — together. And with generous, loving hands, ELCA World Hunger can make a difference. Thank you for sharing God’s love with others.

Synod staff this week

Manny Lewis and Nick Tangen are out of the office this week. Pastor Craig Pederson will be on sabbatical through the end of 2023.

No matter how strong the storm

“For our prayer life to be a peaceful journey with God, it is crucial to recognize and maintain the divine-human boundaries. No matter what our position is or which part of the world we are bringing our prayer concern to God, we need to respect God’s freedom to act as God sees fit. Because prayer is not dictating that God act in a particular way, our confidence in prayer lies not in how perfectly we can coin our words, but in God’s promise to hear and answer our prayer.”

Indigenous theology

The Truth and Healing Movement of the ELCA is sponsoring a class in late November for interested ELCA congregants titled "Indigenous Thought and Theology."

Indian people have unique and beautiful ways of understanding the world. Indigenous wisdom – as it relates to living in relationship with Creator, Mother Earth, and other created beings – should be centered if we want to provide better care for our home and all our relatives. "Indigenous Thought and Theology" provides an introduction to this wisdom and examines Indigenous ways of understanding, respecting, and interacting with this wondrous world we inhabit.

Everyone is recovering from something. Whether it’s an addiction, a painful incident from our past, or a daily challenge just to get by in this world, something is holding us back from the life God wants for us. Real recovery isn’t a one-time event or a process that fits into twelve steps or a preset length of time. Uncovering how to live free of what holds you back is a lifelong journey and one best traveled with others.
