Kessler Distinguished Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies at Hartford International University for Religion and Peace as well as the University Professor of New Testament and Jewish Studies Emerita and the Mary Jane Werthan Professor of Jewish Studies Emerita at Vanderbilt University. Tuesday, January 9, 2024
Chapel of the Incarnation, Olson Campus Center
Luther Seminary, St. Paul
Professor Levine will offer a free workshop at 3:30 p.m., for area clergy and seminary students that discusses why anti-Jewish preaching and teaching continue, details the popular misconceptions about the Jewish context of Jesus and Paul found in sermons and church-based curricula, and offers alternatives for reading the texts on which they are based.
During the public lecture at 7:00 p.m., Professor Levine will present “The Parable of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector: Why Knowledge of Jewish History Matters for Christian Preaching and Teaching.” Both events are free; no registration is required. The lecture will be livestreamed for those unable to attend in person.

The Truth and Healing Movement of the ELCA is sponsoring a class in late November for interested ELCA congregants titled "Indigenous Thought and Theology."
Indian people have unique and beautiful ways of understanding the world. Indigenous wisdom – as it relates to living in relationship with Creator, Mother Earth, and other created beings – should be centered if we want to provide better care for our home and all our relatives. "Indigenous Thought and Theology" provides an introduction to this wisdom and examines Indigenous ways of understanding, respecting, and interacting with this wondrous world we inhabit.
Thursday, November 30
Zoom
Vance Blackfox will be the presenter. Pre-registration is not required.

Everyone is recovering from something. Whether it’s an addiction, a painful incident from our past, or a daily challenge just to get by in this world, something is holding us back from the life God wants for us. Real recovery isn’t a one-time event or a process that fits into twelve steps or a preset length of time. Uncovering how to live free of what holds you back is a lifelong journey and one best traveled with others.
