This Sunday's Adult Forum:
Endowment Board Q&A
At the annual meeting, we all got a great overview of the Endowment Fund and how it works. But there’s a lot more to know. Please join us this Sunday in Valentine Hall at 10:15 for a conversation with the St. James’s Endowment Board. Not only will you meet Endowment Board members and learn about the essential role they play in the life of the church, but they'll also be available for Q&A.
We'll also be handing out the 2023 Endowment Fund Report, complete with a look back at the last year, detailed financials, and a list of Whitlock Legacy Society members.

Readings for Friday
in the 3rd Week of Lent
The COLLECT
Grant us, O Lord our Strength, a true love of your holy Name; so that, trusting in your grace, we may fear no earthly evil, nor fix our hearts on earthly goods, but may rejoice in your full salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
The GOSPEL: Mark 12:28–34
One of the scribes came near and heard Jesus and the Saducees disputing with one another, and seeing that Jesus answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the first of all?” Jesus answered, “The first is, ‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our God, the Lord is one; you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ The second is this, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” Then the scribe said to him, “You are right, Teacher; you have truly said that ‘he is one, and besides him there is no other’; and ‘to love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and with all the strength,’ and ‘to love one’s neighbor as oneself,’ —this is much more important than all whole burnt offerings and sacrifices.” When Jesus saw that he answered wisely, he said to him, “You are not far from the kingdom of God.” After that no one dared to ask him any question.

Lenten Quiet Morning:
A Morning of Learning and Practice
of Spiritual Practices
Saturday, March 16, 9 to 11:30 in Parkinson Room
In the midst of life we often struggle to find time to slow down and focus on ourselves as spiritual beings. During Lent, we often talk about taking on particular spiritual practices or disciplines…but we don’t always know where to start.
Join Rev. Amelia and special guest facilitator Fontaine Williamson for a morning of learning and practicing spiritual disciplines and practices. We are offering this time and space to introduce (or re-introduce) you to spiritual practices to help you deepen your connection to God on a day to day basis.
We will begin with a welcome and introduction, and then spend a few hours learning about and practicing spiritual practices that you can continue in your daily life. Please dress comfortably, bring a yoga mat or other mat or cushion to sit on, a water bottle, and journal.
Please RSVP to Amelia, aarthur@doers.org, or contact her with questions.

Announcing new
Sacred Ground opportunities.
The Episcopal Church describes Sacred Ground as a “dialogue series on race & faith.” If you ask the more than 100 St. James’sers who’ve already participated in this program, they’ll tell you it’s an experience that will change how you see race, racism, and your own personal history.
Here’s how it works: Small groups are invited to walk through chapters of America’s history of race and racism while weaving in threads of their own family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. The 11-part series – spread over 4½ months to give you ample time for reading, viewing videos, and processing the material – is built around a powerful online curriculum of documentary films and readings that focus on indigenous, black, Latino, and Asian/Pacific American histories as they intersect with European American histories.
Suzanne Hall and Patty Duffy, both experienced Sacred Ground facilitators, will
co-facilitate classes with a maximum of ten participants every other Saturday from
9-11 am beginning April 6 and ending August 17. You can sign up here.
To learn more, go to the Sacred Ground page on the Episcopal Church website.
We’re working on adding another class or two.
If you’re interested in participating in Sacred Ground but Saturday doesn’t work for you, we’re considering two additional times:
Mondays from 4 to 6 pm or Wednesdays from 7 to 9 pm.
Go here to indicate which time(s) work better for you.

Looking Ahead & Ways to Get Involved | |
|
Come be God's hands
in the World.
Mission work has long been a central part of life at St. James’s. And we’re excited to announce that – after a period of discernment – we’ll be offering three meaningful mission opportunities this summer. Three chances to create important connections. Three mission chances to start (or continue) relationships that change lives -- including yours. And three chances to make a difference in the lives of people in need.
Our Summer Missions are:
- Hurley Community Development Center (June 22 - 28)
- Harvest of Hope on the Eastern Shore ((July 14 - 17)
- Our Little Roses Home for Girls in Honduras (July 15 - 22).
- The deadline to sign up for the trip to Our Little Roses in Honduras is March 15.
We also have a fourth way to be God's hands in the world right here in Richmond, ProjectHomes (see below).
To learn more about our missions -- and to watch a video with Rev. Blake Singer and Katie Ricard that does a great job of explaining our Missions efforts -- you can go here.
For more information about our YOUTH missions, and to sign up, go here.
