Thus says the high and lofty One who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy, "I dwell in the high and holy place and also with the one who has a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble and to revive the heart of the

The Confession
Let us confess our sins against God and our neighbor.
Silence may be kept.
Most merciful God,
we confess that we have sinned against you
in thought, word, and deed,
by what we have done,
and by what we have left undone.
We have not loved you with our whole heart;
we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We are truly sorry and we humbly repent.
For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ,
have mercy on us and forgive us;
that we may delight in your will,
and walk in your ways,
to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Prayer of acceptance of God's forgiveness
Almighty God have mercy on us, forgive us all our sins through our Lord Jesus Christ, strengthen us in all goodness, and by the power of the Holy Spirit keep us in eternal life. Amen.

Job 38:1-7, (34-41)
The Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind:
"Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up your loins like a man,
I will question you, and you shall declare to me.
"Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth?
Tell me, if you have understanding.
Who determined its measurements—surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it?
On what were its bases sunk,
or who laid its cornerstone
when the morning stars sang together
and all the heavenly beings shouted for joy?
“Can you lift up your voice to the clouds,
so that a flood of waters may cover you?
Can you send forth lightnings, so that they may go
and say to you, ‘Here we are’?
Who has put wisdom in the inward parts,
or given understanding to the mind?
Who has the wisdom to number the clouds?
Or who can tilt the waterskins of the heavens,
when the dust runs into a mass
and the clods cling together?

Mark 10:35-45
James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came forward to Jesus and said to him, “Teacher, we want you to do for us whatever we ask of you.” And he said to them, “What is it you want me to do for you?” And they said to him, “Grant us to sit, one at your right hand and one at your left, in your glory.” But Jesus said to them, “You do not know what you are asking. Are you able to drink the cup that I drink, or be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?” They replied, “We are able.” Then Jesus said to them, “The cup that I drink you will drink; and with the baptism with which I am baptized, you will be baptized; but to sit at my right hand or at my left is not mine to grant, but it is for those for whom it has been prepared.”
When the ten heard this, they began to be angry with James and John. So Jesus called them and said to them, “You know that among the Gentiles those whom they recognize as their rulers lord it over them, and their great ones are tyrants over them. But it is not so among you; but whoever wishes to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you must be slave of all. For the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.
He ascended into heaven,

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

The Lord’s Prayer

Holy One, in all humility, we ask that you guide our steps that we may walk in your ways. Daily bless our ministry to our neighbors and our vocations in the world. We pray especially for our partnerships with St. Croix in Leogane Haiti, the Kwi family from Cameroon and Christ Church’s Interfaith Refugee Ministry. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Creating One, for the lush and abundant habitat you provide for all your creatures, we praise you. Provide healing for the earth so that waterfowl, reptiles, wild horses, dolphins, and all living things flourish as you intend. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Suffering One, for all who work toward peace and who lead nations with a servant’s heart, we praise you. Bring justice for all who suffer violence, persecution, discrimination, hunger, poverty, and homelessness, and create places of refuge for all people. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Merciful One, for all who do the work of healing in mind, body, and spirit, we praise you. God the master builder, bless, nurture, shield, and guide the work of Youth Ministry Renovation and Prayer teams as they discern a bright future for our parish programs with children and youth. Open their ears, eyes and hearts to new ways for our youngest members to participate in the full life of the church. Watch over all who parent, teach, and learn. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Sustaining One, for all who volunteer to enliven our worship, we praise you. Strengthen and encourage greeters, ushers, cantors, readers, choristers, bell ringers, altar guild members, flower arrangers, and all who serve with generous hearts. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Prayer of Thanksgiving for the Ministry of Bob Callahan
Glorious Lord, today we uplift the ministry of Bob Callahan and celebrate his many years of welcoming hospitality and coordination of Emmanuel's Sunday morning ushers. Up with the sun, he rose many a morning to greet long time parishioners, newcomers, young and old to worship in these pews. With deep gratitude, we ask God to bless Bob on the journey ahead. May the road rise up to meet him. May the wind be always at his back. May the sun shine warm upon his face; the rains fall soft upon his fields and until we meet again, may God hold him in the palm of His hand. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
Risen One, we thank you for those who have shaped your church and shared your gospel. Standing on the shoulders of saints, we look forward in hope to the joys of the kingdom to come. We uplift in prayer the soul of Daniel McLaughlin, friend of Kathy Brown, and for the 4.8 million souls lost to Covid-19 including 722,000 deaths in the United States. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

The General Thanksgiving
