Emerge! eNews
January 2018
2018 is our eMERGERversary!

10 years ago, Tucson Center for Women and Children and Brewster Center merged to form Emerge! In 2018, we're celebrating the success of this merger, the legacy of 42 years of domestic abuse services in our community and the continued services that Emerge! provides in Pima County.

Stay tuned for more information about how we will be celebrating throughout 2018.
Holiday House Volunteers
Holiday House 2017

Emerge's 2017 Holiday House was held at Councilman Steve Kozachik's Ward 6 office as they were gracious enough to allow us the use of their space for an entire week. Over 360 people were served through Holiday House this year. It made quite an impact on participants as many expressed that they weren't sure how they would provide any gifts for their families if not for Emerge! We had many heartwarming moments and the smiles on everyone's faces made this event so special. The cupcakes and goodies the kids ate helped, too!

Everyone received a blanket, mittens/gloves, beanies, one large gift and 3 small gifts. Additionally, every child received a stuffed animal and book.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and community donors! We had over 100 volunteers help with set-up, tear down, gift-wrapping and helping participants and their children pick out gifts for one another.

Because of you and your generosity, we were able to serve more participants than originally projected and our participants were able to choose from a wonderful selection of donated items.

Our sincerest THANK YOU to everyone from the bottom of our hearts.
Save the Date!

Our 2018 Mother of the Year luncheon will be held on Friday, April 27, 2018 at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa.

Please mark your calendars and join us!

(Note the change in location this year!)

New Protocol in Pima County

I n 2018, through expanded partnership with law enforcement entities and the Pima County Attorney's Office, more domestic abuse victims who are at the greatest risk of serious injury or death will have more immediate access to Emerge!'s services.

With the statewide roll-out of the Arizona
Intimate Partner Risk Assessment Instrument System (APRAIS), Pima County will  implement the new  tool with both misdemeanor and felony cases, resulting in a  significant increase in lethality screenings. Emerge! anticipates receiving 3,000-6,000 additional referrals of   high risk domestic abuse victims once the new APRAIS protocol is in full  effect.

In addition to those referred by law enforcement partners, we will also continue to serve victims who come to seek safety through many other pathways. Last year, Emerge! served over 6,000 people affected by domestic abuse in the Tucson community. With this increase in referrals and demand for life-saving services, those who will support Emerge! with volunteering their time, making donations, holding third-party fundraising or becoming corporate sponsors will be as important as ever.
KaBoom! Grant

Emerge! received a $15,000 grant to build a new playground at our emergency shelter. The Let's Play Community Construction Grant was awarded by the Dr. Pepper Snapple Group and the nonprofit KaBOOM!

The funding will allow us to design, purchase and install a playground to be used by families receiving services at our shelter. While we already have a playground at its shelter for older children, the new playground will be for toddlers.

Groundbreaking on the new playground is expected to be in the spring/summer.
