Dear Reader
There is a massive amount of news items in this newsletter today. It is almost like a magazine. Please do take the time out to review all of the news articles contained in this newsletter today. We don't want you to miss out on anything.
Just like we certainly didn't want you to miss out on the massive project announced by the minister of TEATT to re-design the marketplaces in Philipsburg and expand these with green spaces, taxi holding area, tour busses terminal and new vending kiosks for registered vendors. Check out the beautiful artist renditions. Very inspiring. Almost makes you forget there is an election coming up.

Last year, we almost hit the jackpot with the Pearl of China project. Remember that one? In Curacao, the Chinese can't seem to deliver on their promises there either. But it is not only a Chinese affliction. The American space company, XCOR, that had aimed to offer flights into space with its Lynx rocket plane from a launching platform in Curacao, is bankrupt and the space tourists who paid more than €70,000 – 260 in all, for a total of more than €18.2 million (close to $21,.5 million at the current rate of exchange) – have lost their money.
Click here to read the full report of this failed project.
Projects that do seems to succeed time and time again, are the simple community projects where local people come together and work side by side for a common good. The work of the
Tzu Chi Foundation, the
Red Cross, the
SXM POWER Project, the
Engage Foundation, the
Fruits de Mer Association, and even that
Yoda Guy got it right when it comes to small scale project developments to help build back up our communities. The consistency of these groups of people to get the jobs successfully done is what is admirable and commendable and should inspire us to sometimes think small if we want to achieve great things.

Finally, the 1st Annual Customer Service Week is from November 27th to December 1st at the Holland House Beach Hotel and there is still room for more participants, though space is limited. Last-minute walk-ins paying cash at the door will also be accepted. Their Job Readiness Course will be a hit, we believe, with many jobless post-Irma. Check online at
www.AcademyCSMA.com for more information about the available courses and their Irma special rates.

Maybe there is some silent diplomacy going on behind the scenes; we don’t know that. But to the public eye it seems right now that St. Maarteners who fled to the Netherlands after Hurricane Irma and who are encountering difficulties registering in municipalities like
Haarlem are left out in the cold by the government of St. Maarten.
It is bad enough that Haarlem stubbornly denies Irma-refugees their most basic rights as Dutch citizens. The national ombudsman, Reinier van Zutphen, has in the meantime
intervened with questions to Home Affairs Minister Kasja Ollongren. But the refugees have so far, and as far as we know, not received any form of support from the government in St. Maarten.
