IMPORTANT: Please Return School Materials
You can
help us spend school funds wisely and
not have to
unecessarily purchase new curricular materials by
returning textbooks, library books and other non-consumables (calculators, manipulatives, etc.) to school this week and next.
If you're unsure what needs to be returned, please email your student's teacher(s). If you missed your student's drop-off day earlier this week, you can come any weekday through June 4, 10am-1pm.
Student materials that are not retrieved by Thursday, June 4, will be donated or recycled.
VIELEN DANK!

Planning for the 2020-2021 School Year
TCGIS administrators are working hard to develop an operationally and educationally workable solution for our school community. As this school year comes to a close, we want to share with you our process for planning for the 2020/21 school year.
Currently we are in Stage 2 of the planning process (below). Administrators are working with educators, staff, and school board members to develop solutions for at least three potential scenarios.
Parent and student feedback on distance-learning experiences this year will be collected through the Parent and Student Councils and will help inform the solutions TCGIS administrators and educators develop for next year. Watch for communication from the Parent Council in the coming weeks.
In Stage 3, once plans for next school year are finalized, we will again seek parent and student feedback on the plan through the respective councils.
We appreciate your trust and patience with the process as we work together to "build a school" in such uncertain times.

Join the #TCGISSauerkrautChallenge!
Help us surpass our $100,000 milestone!
Liebe TCGIS Gemeinschaft,
Let's say
auf Wiedersehen, Tschüß, Ciao, bis später to this school year together. Join us for a fun and final fundraising campaign to push us over our next $100,000 milestone!
Here's how it works:
- Buy yourself some tasty Sauerkraut!
- Take a video of yourself (or your student) eating a spoonful of Sauerkraut and pledging a donation to TCGIS. (Make your online donation here.)
- Challenge a fellow parent or friend to do the same in your video.
- Share the video on your favorite social media channel(s) and use a fun hashtag.
Donations of all sizes are welcome!
Students and parents are welcome to make a donation in honor of a staff person, but please tag another student or parent as well to move the campaign along:
"I'm eating Sauerkraut with honey for the #TCGISSauerkrautChallenge and making a donation to TCGIS in honor of [teacher name]. I challenge [friend's name] to the #TCGISSauerkrautChallenge!"
Share your videos on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and Snapchat, using these fun hashtags. Follow our community having fun together and supporting our school!
#getyourkrauton
#krautchallenge2020
#showmethekraut
#putyourmoneywhereyourkrautis
Herzlichen Dank for your generosity!
Mit dankbarem Gruß,
Ted Anderson &

TCGIS XC Team Registration Closes Sunday!
May 15 at 8:00 AM until May 31 at 11:59 PM, and the season is currently planned to begin on
Monday, August 3
. Please, register early! We quickly reached our maximum number of athletes for indoor track and outdoor track this school year.
Regarding the
calendar: Practices are set for Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Most of the meets and races are still based on last year's calendar. We have not yet been able to confirm all of the meets, especially given COVID-19. We will let you know once we have confirmed those meets.
Payment required at time of registration: $175*
The price increase is so that we can add bus transportation to certain meets. If we cannot meet together in-person as a team and we have to cancel all in-person events for the cross-country season due to COVID-19, we will refund the total amount of $175 to families.
*Finances should not be a factor in deciding to participate in TCGIS sporting teams. If finances are a concern, please contact Coach Tabisz BEFORE registration opens because payment is required at the time of registration.

Spring Surveys from the University of St. Thomas
TCGIS's authorizer, the University of St. Thomas, looks to gather feedback from key school stakeholders each spring. This year they are gathering that feedback virtually, in the form of a short survey tailored to each group. Below are the links to
the respective surveys for TCGIS parents and students. The surveys are anonymous, and St. Thomas requests that they be
completed and submitted by Friday, May 29.

The air units are in the process of installation, and the underground stormwater management was covered and is ready to become a playspace.

Upcoming School Board Elections
Elections for open seats on the TCGIS school board will occur online June 1 - 5 this year. Details on how to vote will be sent via email on Monday, June 1. In the meantime, please read about the candidates here, or watch the recording of the recent candidate forum hosted by the PTO and Parent Council.
Upcoming Committee Meetings
Here are the scheduled upcoming committee meetings. Please contact the committee chair for meeting login details. Meetings will be virtual until further notice.
The board will hold a brief special meeting ahead of the regularly scheduled board meeting. Bylaws require all draft policies to be read and discussed at two board meetings before being adopted. This special meeting will fulfill this requirement and allow the board to vote on the
Election Policy and Dignity at Work policy later in the evening.

TCGIS Community Garden Project
Parents, teachers, kids, whether you have a green thumb or not, you are invited to participate in a fun new project- the TCGIS Community Garden! The School Board arranged for TCGIS to have a 306 sqft plot at the D10 Como Community Garden,
and this inaugural year, we plan to donate the produce to the local food shelf as a community service. We've planted broccoli, cauliflower, peppers, brussel sprouts, strawberries, cucumbers, cabbage, tomatoes, carrots, and some flowers too! Thank you to the Deimel family for donating the majority of plants to kickstart this effort!
Let's grow a garden together! Sign up HERE! Please help us maintain the garden over the summer by signing up for days to visit, pull weeds and water from the nearby fire hydrant. More details will be sent to those who sign up. The community garden is located on the east side of Snelling, north of Como Ave, between Almond and Albany Avenues. With questions,
please email Julie Alkatout at jalkatout@tcgis.org.
